AR Optic

Ok, starting to think about tricking out the AR. First step: Optic of some sort. I'm thinking holographic sight w/out magnification, but one that can work with an optional magnifier and/or night vision.

I'm currently thinking Eotech 552.A65/1, but am open to thoughts, suggestions, alternatives. Eotech is pricy in comparison to some off-brands, but I hear they are the best.

I am optic-ignorant and willing to learn.

EOTech. The money is well worth it. I'm currently debating ordering a second one myself. Mostly because I want one to leave on my M4 and not have to switch it out between the 870 and the M4.

Don't skimp and pick up a knock-off due to price... you'll later just turn around and pick up the real thing. Do it once, the right way.

I have owned Eotechs and they are great and have also seen the ACOG they seem to be the real deal also. I think either way you are going to be happy.

I'm issued an EOTech...

My own money? I bought an Aimpoint M3.

Let me say this...they are both good optics, but I'll take an Aimpoint because...

1. Durability...Aimpoint still has the EOThing beat.

2. Battery life...not even close.

3. Reticle...personal preference I know, but I like Aimpoint's uncluttered single dot.

EO Tech 512.....can use AA batteries in it and they are easy to change. Will most likely fit your needs

I like the Aimpoint M3, single dot is what I prefer. Eotechs are good also, and cheaper too I think. Would like an ACOG but don't want to pawn my first born yet.

I have an Eotech 552(AA batteries and some improvements over 512) I like it quite a bit. I also have a 3x... Acog that is pretty Tacti-cool but probably way overkill for a plinker like me....however it is extremely accurate and easy to use.

Hey Punisher,

Will you buy me an EOtech?????????????:D

Buy you a pint of ...Well you know. :) Don't they issue you guys EOTechs on your rifles anyway?

We're seeing more ACOGs being issued but I still prefer EOTEC for myself. Since I train mostly to shoot CQB with both eyes open the EOTEC works best for me. I also like the cleaner field of view while using NVGs.

However I do think that the ACOG is the better longer range optic.

For Me - - - Anything beyond 200m and I'm hidding or trusting my wingman to place 30mm down so I can make a break to the CSAR bird!

I am going on my second year of 3-gun with eotec 512. It takes practice to get the long shots without a magnifier, but the close up stuff is where it really excels. I do not think they can be beat for the money.

I trusted my life to an ACOG, but Aimpoint with 3x magnifier is good too. All the Eotech's ended up in wall lockers.

Eotec will most likely be the most bang for the buck.

1. Has the mount built in

2. cheaper battery's

All zero magnification sights take more skill to get hits on target past 100 yards.
