This is an old video.

Interesting that people standing up for their Rights are concidered trouble makers by some here...

There are ways to "stand up for your rights" and there are ways to act like an a**

Most people carry a "video camera" with them every day, as a matter of fact I'm surfing the WWW on mine right now. I'm not 100% certain that this group went out looking for an incident.

If it's not against the law to not show ID then I don't see what the problem is when a citizen refuses to show it.

In this situation how does it make the LEOs job easier if you were to show them your ID?

If we all really want to make their job easier we should just do whatever they say when they say it?

"Mind if I search your car?"

"Mind if we come in your house?"

"Papers please...... your papers do not appear to be in order."

Stupid baiters trying to make a point.

The opening frame says it's their "monthly OC meet in Liberty, MO." I understand "baiting" if it's an opportunist (ala Leonard), but this is something this group does monthly. Must have panicked an unknowing new customer to make the MWAG call.

The fine line between liberty and tyranny is displayed most excellently in this statement. Well stated.

I take offense to that "comrad" comment! :stick:

If you got to know me, I think you'd see I'm one of the most anti-commie guys you'll ever meet on here. :usa:

Sorry, perhaps sheeple is more appropriate? ;)

Point is, if you open carry, you make a point every time you do it, and most open carriers are somewhat activist about it. Might as well take it to the legal limit each time.

Or just conceal carry and not have to deal with the public or cops at all, which is my preferred MO.

I don't want a positive open carry experience, don't want to convert anyone, don't even want to talk about 2A or TCA. I want no interaction with the public at all that happens because I'm packing heat. If I did, I'd open carry.

I can see both sides of the argument here. Its a tough call.

If a state has an open carry law saying you can carry openly and you're not suspicious or committing a crime, then I see no reason for police to come wanting to check everyone's ID. That would be a bit commie "papers please."

But I also feel, if i had a carry permit or lived a place where you can carry openly, I would still conceal as not to have to deal with any drama. :)

Having unneeded drama because you choose to carry open and then not cooperating with LEO's also seems a bit silly when all you'd have to do is show your permit so they can go on about their day knowing you're legal to carry and not a threat.

like I said, it is a tough call on this one.

But commie or sheeple I am not. You need to really meet me in person and I guarantee you'll change that opinion fast.

Hey, the traffic cam thread, I'm a tin foil hat paranoid conspiracy theorist

Political type opinions on this forum will get you a quick multitude of labels for sure!

You keep missing the point. Unlike TN, they needed no permit to open carry. They were merely standing up for their rights by exactly following the law.

In TN you must have a permit to carry in any manner, and you must show said permit when asked to do so by a LEO; he can also relieve you of the firearm for the duration of the interaction.

But commie or sheeple I am not. You need to really meet me in person and I guarantee you'll change that opinion fast.

Lighten up Francis .. just playful overstatement to make a point.

The commie that made the MWAG call is mostly to blame for all of this. They are the ones that see a gun and think "bad guy". It's stupid!!! Bad guys don't wear holsters and sit down to eat at Steak N Shake in large groups.

The officers had to respond to the call; it's their job, but the "show me your papers" response is tiresome. What does knowing my name and that I have ID really do to satisfy a MWAG call? As soon as it's clear the caller was an idiot and these guys are NOT up to no good, the officers could have made it into less of a show.

In all fairness, the OC'ers were hoping this would happen. They wanted to prove a point and exercise their rights. I agree that rights not exercised are rights soon lost. However, the more atttention you create for your cause, the more likely activists will line up to fight against your cause. These guys didn't do anything negative, but the cops DEFINITELY walked away with a less than positive feeling about OC.

I get that they do this monthly, but that doesn't mean they aren't hoping this happens monthly. The comments near the camera are what gave me that impression, not the scenario. I got the distinct impression that several of them viewed the police as their enemies there, NOT the MWAG caller.

I understand the perspective; while possible, I still think that's quite an imaginative stretch, and one I'm surprised to hear coming from a fellow gunny. The comments from the "cameraman" might lend some credence to your thoughts, but he's one, not a group of 16. I'm more a "benefit of the doubt" guy than an accuser.

Wouldn't it just be easier to acquiesce to their request?

No. Sometimes gunowners just have to act like stubborn children to prove their point. :P

16 Leonard's? Perhaps they were wishing for an "encounter" each month, and finally got one.

I'll be the first to admit this is just the impression I got, not a fact. I am a staunch "fellow gunny", but I also don't want to scare the sheep. They outnumber us and some already have bad impressions. They vote too and I want some issues OFF their radar, so they don't make uninformed/irrational choices at the ballot.
