I am on a volunteer fire department. It surprised the chief the first time he seen my Tarus peek out from under my shirt. ...

And his policy was...?

there is nothing in our sop/sog's about carrying a weapon legally. it is no secret that I choose to carry everywhere. he does not have a problem with it and several of us there have our permit or are on the sheriff’s department.

also I am no spring chicken. there is no flaunting about that I have my carry gun with me.

it only comes into conversation if we bring in someone new and they happen to notice it during training etc.

Honestly Sir, you should never RUN head first into ANY medical call. Twenty Six years of experience speaking here! That's why they make Cops, Canarys and Army Privates!

I was only using that as a metaphor. But you never know what you are going to see or be a part of when you are called to a scene. There has been more than once we have been on a simple call that accelerated to needing a SO.

One that comes to memory we went to a home where a child was having problems. While there we noticed the neighbor was burning trash in the back yard in a pit. We walked over and knocked on the door to find no one home. We started putting the fire out when the owner arrived. He was not happy and ended with us calling SO.

Just the other night we responded to a fire investigation while the county was on a burn ban. The guy burning the trash was nice enough and when we started putting it out the wife comes running out not so nice.

Yelling and being belligerent. You just never know what is around the corner.

I don’t think it would be a problem with Paramedics or Firemen carrying as long as it was done openly. I would hate to put an injured prisoner in the back of an ambulance with someone that is armed and not know it. Of course I don’t think any FD or Ambulance service is going to go for it.

My father-in-law is a retired Firefighter. He used to always tell me “We don’t need any of you cops showing up; we have fire hoses and axesâ€. biggrin.gif

I have much respect for our local fire and ems crews here. But they will call in a heartbeat if it is leading to something that may lead to physical confrontation or further. I don't blame them, I don't put up with people jacking with my fire or ems crews. They are there to help not to take a beating. I'm all for anybody carrying ems, fire, or average joe.
