Scrapyard scrapper 5?

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up a Scrapyard scrapper 5 in SR101 steel in a trade, I am really not all that educated on knives or knife steels so I was curious to find out more about this knife.

Anyone know more about these particular knives?

Their "SR" steel is normal tool steel with their own super secret razzle dazzle heat treatment/tempering.

Supposed to be quite good, actually, don't mean to poke fun at it.

Certainly, this is a part of knife-making that really separates blade quality. For example, Buck's 420HC stands pretty much alone because of their treatment, other examples like Cold Steel's AUS8, etc, steels of a certain class that actually rise well above the competition to rival more exotic blends.

Whether Busse's various stuff is better than ESEE, Ka-Bar/Becker, Ontario etc who use similar steel stock, I dunno, constantly debated by knife people. It is fine fine quality though, little debate about that.

Thanks OS, all of my knives are working knives (I do not collect them) so I am glad to hear that this one isn't some sort of collectable & that it should withstand a bit of punishment.

A "bit" indeed. Google around for Scrapyard Knife Test, Busse Knife Test, etc.

Pretty sure they're like ESEE, with lifetime no questions type warranty too?

I know a little bit about these. Scrapyard is part of the Busse Knife Family, and is owned by Dan Busse. I have several blades in SR101 and they have handled fantastically. They are also covered by a lifetime warranty.

Any pics of the new acquistion?

I don't have any photos of it at the moment, but I think we are going to do a campfire/cookout tonight & I'll take a couple pic's of it while we are out there.

Thanks Bulitt, I really like the knife so far, it sure seems like a keeper to me, having a knife that can baton really hard wood without getting torn up is going to be very nice because I banged up my Yugoslavian type 2 AKM bayonet batoning some mesquite chunks up for use in my smoker & I am guessing that that sort of abuse wouldn't have hurt this Scrapyard Scrapper at all.

I shall soon find out though, as I am planning on using the smoker to smoke up some buffalo meat this weekend.

Oh and sorry I forgot all about posting photos, so I snagged the camera and took a couple of snapshots real quick.

First thing I did when I got my 711 was clean up the edge and gut down a 5 inch tree for a fire. Tree never stood a chance. So you scrapper should be fine for anything you got planned
