New to Tennessee, what do I need to know?

I recently moved to Tennessee from Indiana, what do I need to know about Campbell County and Tennessee gun laws so I do not end up in hot water.

I am waiting to get into a handgun course to get my Indiana LTCH transfered to a Tennessee HCP. What is this class all about?

Where can I carry and where can i not carry in Tennessee? I know that places that post per Tenn. Code but what places are off limits?

You can have a gun on school property as long as it stays in your vehicle and you don't touch it while you are there.

the class in part is about where you can and cannot carry. Until then, google something like "tn handgun laws visitors" to get the 10 cent list of what you can and cannot do. The class also has some gun safety & basics, and a very easy shooting exercise (hit a man-target most of the time at a few ranges from short, shorter, and shortest).

TN gun laws are state wide only, one of the laws is that local areas cannot create local gun laws. So your county is the same as any other.

You do not really transfer. You apply and obtain a TN HCP. For some time (30? 90? something?) days your old permit will still work but after that, you need a TN one.

Applicant must be twenty-one (21), complete a DOS approved handgun safety course, complete the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit application, provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency, and pay the applicable renewal fee.

(Indiana requires applicant to be eighteen (18) years of age and to be fingerprinted. No handgun safety school required.)"

It'll only cost you $50 for the permit (instead of $115); safety course averages maybe $80.

Supposed to have TN permit 6 months after establishing residency, your IN one is good till then.

I ordered sweet tea at an applebees in michigan & they brought me unsweet & pointed to the splenda/pink&blue sweeteners? I said really? Why didn't u tell me it was unsweet. He said that's all we make, you know because of diabetics. Before my too polite wife could stop me it slipped out and I asked 'do you not fry anything because of the fat people too?'. Yeah sweet tea..here & alabama it rocks.

This was similar to my first Michigan experience except they brought me raspberry tea. I had to spit it back out... no warning on that one. I don't even bother asking anymore if I'm anywhere outside the South.

After that limited list of "always no-go places", any property that is properly posted is also off limits. Churches, restaurants with alcohol, etc. still have to post if they want to. Properly posted means a gunbuster or text with specific language that you'll see in the law linked below. Some parking lots are posted. That makes them off-limits too. It doesn't have to be the building entrance itself

You may see some old signage in some restaurants stating it's a felony to carry a firearm where alcohol is served. Those are old signs. Ignore them. The same goes for "no firearms" signs at the entrance to some state parks. The parks say they don't have the money to replace all their signs, so they were allowed to stay. They will be updated once they need to be replaced.
