Stabbing at Stones Rivers Greenway Nashville

I access the greenway at this location often. I consider this an isolated issue but I'd certainly feel more comfortable if I could carry in metro parks.

That's my point - ridiculous. I road bike on the greenways and was hoping to carry my .380 with me since I go through parts of East Nashville to pickup various parts of the Music City Bikeway. Coming out of Shelby Bottoms can be alarming certain parts of the day. I almost always run into loose pitbulls roaming the area too.

Yeah, I saw these guys walking down Central Pike around 8am that morning.

All 4 had new Molle packs, with 2-3 dogs on leads.

They looked like the Occupy Whatever crowd.

Guessing they didn't like what the walker told them when they begged for a handout.

Heard this from a relative of the victim: They asked for a handout, he ignored them, they started cursing and chasing him. They released their dogs on him and then beat him and apparently one stabbed him. He is not a small person but anyone can be overpowered by multiples.

If I understand correctly, if you are attacked in a park like this and pull out a handgun and shoot the attackers, you cannot be charged with a 'gun in the park' violation because it is a case of self defense.

"39-17-1322. Defenses.

A person shall not be charged with or convicted of a violation under this part if the person possessed, displayed or employed a handgun in justifiable self-defense or in justifiable defense of another during the commission of a crime in which that person or the other person defended was a victim."

I guess if you used a rifle or shotgun, you'd still be guilty of whatever else you may have violated, though, eh?
