Is there a fee to sell a ClassIII item out of state?

I have some ClassIII items for sale and have interest from a buyer in TX. Are there any fees that I (as the seller) would have to pay to transfer the items to a buyer in TX?

yes if you are not a class 3 dealer and you want to sell to someone in another state then ut fas to go through 2 dealers 1 in your state 1 in the other state

Yep. It would have to transfer from a local dealer to his classIII dealer.

Usually, sellers post in there ads that the buyer is responsible for all transfer fees. I don't know how your ad was worded, but if nothing was mentioned, you may want to talk to the prospective buyer about all the fees that will be involved for an interstate Class 3 transfer, because it is expensive:

1. You will have to transfer the item to a Class 3 dealer here in TN ($200 transfer tax to ATF)

2. This dealer will have to transfer the item to the buyer's dealer in TX (your dealer will probably charge you a fee for that; usually $50 to $100)

3. Buyer's dealer will transfer it to him ($200 transfer tax to ATF), plus they will probably charge him a transfer fee for their troubles (again $50 to $100)

As you can see, you are looking at $500+ to do an interstate transfer. I have seem some sellers pay the transfer tax and dealer fee on their end, and the buyer is responsible for the fees on their end. I guess it depends on the value of the item, and how bad you want to sell it.

Pre-86 MGs are about the only NFA Weapons worth transferring like this... IMHO
