Donelson Air used to be a highly reputable company when those goofy women still owned it but they are as bad as they come now.

I have never personally used them but Mom and Dad did. In 2008 they were having their system checked out with the preventative maintanence service. I don't know what the problem was but they talked my parents into replacing the system which was a gas heat, electric air unit. They sold them a top of the line Lennox system that they just happened to have on their truck. Mom and Dad were both 81 and i'm sure that the guy saw dollar signs! they charged them $8900 for a unit going into a 1200 sq ft home. There is no way they need that. There are plenty of other good brands that could have been half of that price but they screwed my parents. It has been downhill since then. I have had issue after issue with them and then yesterday the inside blower quit and since it was under warranty I foolishly called them again. They said they could send someone out last night. What they didn't tell me is that he wouldn't be able to fix it. I had told them what the problem and I assumed (yeah, I know) that he would bring out a new fan motor that would replace the bad one. Instead he came out and told me what I already knew and then said that will be $84. Then he called back and said my card didn't work so he verified my number and ran it again. Still said it wouldn't go. When I got home from work at 11pm I went straight to my PC and he had charged me $84 TWICE!! OK now I'm really PO'd. He told me that he would be back this morning to replace the fan and that would be an additional $271. The part is free but this is the labor charge!!! Holy Cow!!!

Well I got to the house at 8am and at noon I started calling his cell, no answer. Called the office and the guy said he would call him and get back to me. The tech called about 45 minutes later and told me that he could be there at 3 or 4. Great! I asked what happened to getting to me this morning and that I had spent over 4 hours waiting for him and asked what my time was worth. Then the straw that broke the camel's back. He told me he would knock off a couple of dollars! WHAT??? You mean that you value my time at less than $.50 and hour. I hung up on him then called the office and told them that I wanted my $84 and to call the tech and tell him not to bother coming out.

I got an independent HVAC guy through a recommendation and he was there in 20 minutes and has me up and running again. I'm out the $84 the SE charged me and had I let them fix it would have been the total would have been $355 total. The other guy charged me $160.

Service Experts is going to get their money's worth in bad publicity out of me!

Heed my warning and steer clear of Sertvice Experts! The way they treat their customers you would think they were in the porn business because they really stick it to ya!

If you don't mind my asking, who did you use for the final work? I'm looking for a new person to do maintainence service.

And BTW, I'm an ex Donelson air customer as well. Got tired of being told every six months that my central unit wouldn't last more than a few more weeks and get the hard sell for a new unit.

You know it finally did give out, 4 years later, after the big flood when it was completely covered by water; and then it lasted another 9 months. I guess it wasn't quite the pile of junk all the service/sales guys thought. :pleased:

I'll 2nd the disgust with Donelson/Service Experts. Similar story as above but I got a second opinion,

+1 to Adams Heat and Air.

Still using the same unit, they found a simple fix and charged me just a service call.

Correct me if I'm wrong and I may be, but was DAC not owned by Gail Kerr and her family? The Gail Kerr as in the gun hating Tennessean columnist?

I've used Interstate A/C and had good luck. DAC came out when we first bought our house and told my wife (I wasn't at home) that if we didn't buy a new system that day he was going to turn us into the EPA for a freon leak.

When she called me I had her hand him the phone and suggested that it was in everyones best intrest that he not be there when I got home...and I was pulling on the street.

Frankly, there aren't any HVAC companies that I trust, and I think I've used just about all of them.

well you should try this company I was referred to them by a buddy and I will tell you this I am well pleased Thay did a great job and where honest I knew what was wrong with it but wanted to see what Thay had to say when Thay came out, a small relay box .thay came out and looked at it and told me what was wrong it needed this relay box ,I asked you sure it does not need some thing else Thay said no sir I asked are you sure .the man said I am sure and that Thay would have to order the part and he would have the office lady call me with a price, I asked was there a charge that I needed to pay for what Thay already did, he said no sir I said ok. About 1 hour later a lady call up and tells me the price and if I wanted it shipped over night it would cost 27.34 extra in the price she said she charged 1 hr labor but if it only took the tec 30 min then the bill would be lower I said go ahead and order the part over night , today Thay came out replaced the relay only charged me for the 30 min take in mind Thay have made 2 trips to my house ,total bill was $200.72 Take in mind the part and shipping over night was $150.00Thay where honest on time and where very nice both times. I had called 3 other places for a price jest on the phone Thay where telling me min it would cost $300.00 jest to look at it because it sounded like my comp was going out so I asked how mutch would that cost ,any where from 1,200 to 1,700 . Luckily, I've got a very good friend that is also an independent HVAC person. I met him when his daughter and my oldest daughter became friends in grade school. We became better friends as his daughter & my daughter went through the same high school and college.

He has a love/hate view of businesses such as Donelson Air. He hates that companies such as this exist by ripping off people----gives a bad name to the HVAC industry.

But, he admits that he has acquired many longtime customers because he was called in for a second opinion, and actually diagnosed & fixed the problem instead of recommending the replacement of complete units.

My friend now does all the HVAC work at our home, at my dad's home, and at my business.

And as a side note, he also has had his handgun carry permit for a number of years.
