Anyone reccomend a good sight combonation?

Recommended Posts

Here's my problem:

I have just began taking some handgun self defense classes to get a little structured training under my belt. I have always shot with one eye closed and am trying to break that habit and shoot with both eyes as instructed in the class. I am having some difficulty quickly focusing on the front sight and am wondering if this could be due to the sights (or could at least be improved with different sights). The gun I am carrying is a Glock 17 with tritium meprolights installed. I am wondering if a set of fiberoptic sights or even a set of the all black sights would help me. I am slowly getting better at not letting my focus "jump" from the front sights. Does anyone have any input on this?

I have the same problem. Put a piece of opaque tape on your shooting glasses over your non-dominant eye. This will allow you to shoot with both eyes open. Since you can't see much out of the non-dominant eye, the brain will learn to ignore what it's getting from that eye and help train you to be able to see the sights with both eyes open. Some people adjust quickly, some (me) take a while.

Maybe some scotch tape or something like that? Just enough to blur the vision?

I used masking tape, and a small-ish piece. Don't cover the whole lens, just block the forward vision. When I practice regularly, I find it helps. When I go for a while without practicing, I have to start over.
