Hiller Plumbing rant !

Recommended Posts

This may get me banned from this website or not , I am not sure , but this involves my mom and if it means keeping others from getting screwed then it is worth it !

My mom lives in a single level 3 bedroom home with one bathroom and one kitchen . Her kitchen drain is clogged. I came over and messed with it and it worked for 4 days then it clogged again . Now this is only the kitchen drain and it goes out one pipe and that is it . Well she called Hiller Plumbing because she thinks the sun rises and sits on them. They quoted her $3500 for to replace her kitchen drain pipe !!!!! I am a police officer and a part time mechanic but I know that it doesnt cost anywhere near $3500 to replace a drain pipe for one sink !!!!!!! I have tried talking to her and she insists on them doing it . My brother and me have talked to her until we are blue in the face trying to get her to understand that she is getting "took" . She still wants them to do it . I want to do it for free but she wants them to do it .

I may call the BBB about this . What do you guys think ? I believe this is way over charging someone ! Drains work on gravity and I have did drain pipes before and this is crazy!

That must be one Hell of a kitchen drain. I am up to my ears in a plumbing mess, myself, or

I would be happy to give you a hand. Mine is in the ceiling of an hundred year old house. Well,

you know where I live. Cast iron Hell! Is your mom's the old stuff, too?

You ought to be able to do the whole house for that price.

I appreciate it 6.8AR , my mom live in the same town as you and me and her house was made in the 60's. Still it should'nt be that much ! Like I said I would do it all for free but my mom is hard-headed and wants a "plumber" to do it all.

I told mom that the whole house , drain and water supply should'nt be that much all togather ! Bottom line is that they are trying to take her on a ride. I hate to do it but I may over step my mother and talk to them myself. But if my mother finds out she'll be mad . But I love her and dont want her taken advantage of , you know ?

I'd at the very least get a second quote on something that expensive.

Give Chris Myer a call over at Myers Plumbing. He replaced 150 feet of terra cotta drain for me last year that had been ravaged by decades of root growth. I don't think I spent $1000, and those lines were 7 feet deep.

150 ft at 7 ft deep seems really decent

Yea, a second opinion would def help. Then maybe she can see how bad of a rip that price is. I have used Hiller before and they were cool, but that seems like too much.

We use Hiller. I'm always having to reel them in. Get ahold of the guy that wrote the quote, and make him justify every penny.

I'll tell her , thanks Sir .

YOU should talk to him. Those guys tend to throw a high quote up against the wall every time. They DO know what they're doing. Just make them break it down, and ask them for cheaper options. They seem to forget to offer cheaper options on their own.

You might walk in wearing the uniform. They're on the by pass. I'll bet you get a different quote, but

I'd probably do it myself if I had the time. None of them are cheap in Clarksville.

The one constant about plumbing is it's always inconvenient, and expensive.

A Sawsall and some PVC with glue and fittings is all he needs, along with time to get a little dirty, if I'm

guessing right. The typical brick ranch with a crawl space and a long kitchen drain line to the rest of

the drain pipe?

I used Hiller one time to repair a valve in one of my bathrooms. Not only did the plumber overcharge me, but he got stuck in my yard because he didn't know how to keep the truck on the driveway and tore up my grass trying to get it back out. And on top of that, he bitched and complained the whole time about how hard his job was because he had to work with the stupid public. I called and complained but nothing was done.

I'll never use them again.

Replacing a current system is no big deal if your willing to get dirty. You only have to really make calculations if your putting in a new system, and even then you can find out all you need to know online. That is a lot of dough for a sink drain. Now if its a main sewer line......Maybe not.

No it is just a sink drain and that is what made me mad . For that price she could have bought a good used car !

I just replaced two cutoff valves for less than ten bucks. Wait until the Sawsall is out. I should start charging

myself some labor there. I imagine Hiller's price would be twice what Tercel's job was estimated.

Talking about estimates, I got an estimate to paint my house: $30,000. I'm going to be painting this house until I die.

I figured close to $10,000 was reasonable. Roof and gutters was $15,000. That was an insurance claim, thank God, and I got them down by $3,000.

Anyone can do plumbing. There are only 5 simple rules. Only three of them matter.

Slightly reworded for our family friendly environment:

1. Hot is on the left. Cold is on the right.

2. Sewage only flows downhill.

3. The boss is a son of a b#%&$

4. Pay day is Friday

5. Never eat the last bite of your sandwich.

Use these at your own discretion.
