Where to find Blackberry Bushes Near Knoxville?

Recommended Posts

Blackberry season is approaching and I'd like to pick several gallons of the berries to make some wine. Anybody know where there are abundant patches of them near Knoxville on public land? A buddy of mine said Max Patch over near where I-40 crosses into NC is good, but it gets a lot of traffic with other pickers. Plus it is over an hour long trip for me. Was hoping to find somewhere a little closer to home.

Look in the briars under high tension power lines. There are some that grow around where I work. They get picked over pretty fast, both by people and critters.

My step sister and her husband picked a bunch of blackberries in their neighborhood last year in part of the undeveloped portion, but with all the construction they are doing the patches may not be there anymore. I will ask my stepdad next time I see him if he knows if they are still there or not and let you know.

You may want to look at Haw Ridge Park off Edgemoor Road. I haven't done it in years, but I have picked berries from the mountain bike trails.

Seen bushes for sale at coop in Rutledge. Buy you some and plant them for future use if you have some woods near your house.
