Moving to TN with NFA items

So its seriously looking like the wife and I are probably moving to TN before or when our lease is up in March.

I want to establish a NFA trust and SBR a few AR lowers and eventually purchase more NFA items.

That gives me a 10 month time frame and a bunch of questions.

1. If I submit my Forms to the ATF and then move before they are approved, will that delay the process? Would I have to start all over?

2. Would I have to modify the Trust to be compliant in TN? In essence would my trust established in NC still being valid in TN?

3. I understand that you have to submit a 5320.20 to move them across state lines, do you have to have this done and approved before you move or notify them of the permanent change after?

4. Anything else I'm missing?

I haven't begun the process yet and am just wondering if it is going to be best to just wait to not make it anymore complex than needed

A trust from another state will be good in Tennessee. Under Tennessee law, a trust is valid if it complies with the law where it was executed, or where the settlor or trustee resided, or where trust property was located. Most states recognize other states' trusts. I've heard Maine has funny laws about that.

You're going to need an approved form 20 before you go. You have to submit it beforehand and get their blessing. This is assuming you have NFA weapons in your possession at that point. You indicate that you may still be waiting for form 4/form 1 approval then, so it just depends on when you get started and what the wait time is like over the next few months. It ain't getting shorter I can tell you that.

As to the first question, I don't know. I'm sure someone here has some insight on that.

I second what Mr. Stegall commented on above. Just for clarification, your post says when your lease is up in March. Is that 2013? If so you may time to get your form 4 back before you move. If that's the case then I'd say go ahead and set up your trust and make your purchse. If that is a typo, then I might just wait until you have an address here in Tennessee to use.

I would check into interstate trust compliance. Some states don't honor other states trusts. I moved to TN about 7 months ago and used 5320's (individual filer). Took a little under 2 months to get it back.
