3 Don't forget that you only have a mousegun. It is not a "go to battle" weapon. It is an "escape" weapon - a weapon of last resort. Your objective is not to defeat the Bad Guys. Your objective is to save your own life. If you can exit the scene before drawing your firearm, then EXIT.

Very true.

very well written. eloquent, to the point and within the law. plus, its full of common sense.

the ranges are a bit far though for engagement, I would think..if I use a mousegun, I want the range to be not over 10 feet, especially if there are other people present. I want ZERO chance of hitting someone else.

then again, I've never had to use one to combat a crime..so its' a great read!

I recently got a mousegun for my wife. a .32 keltec.

why a .32 you ask? because it has an extended magazine that allows her to hold the pistol more comfortably. that allows for better shot placement. :)

when I get an extended mag for a p3at, she'll carry that and I'll carry the p32 because I feel comfortable that I can put all 9 rounds into the size of a coffee cup at up to 10 feet.

I also teach her that because she's using a smaller caliber weapon, empty the magazine into the bad guy. shoot him into the ground. make EVERY shot hit where you're aiming at and empty the mag. THAT will assuredly stop the threat.

I'm willing to bet that if she were in a scenario like you painted, that the jury would acquit her as long as all her shots hit the target.

with the .32 I also stress that it is there to slow the target down, so that she can run far enough to call for help. her mousegun is not a 1 shot stop weapon so accuracy is even more important, not less...that's why I shortened the accurate distance for her.

is this good sense? can you find flaws in this logic? you've used these things more than I have, so I bow to your superior knowledge on the subject. :)

I tried my hand at writing an essay about how to select and use a mousegun.

Corrections and suggestions are welcome. I make no claim to be an authority.:D

Well written.. I am not a big fan of 'mouseguns' as anything other than a gun of last resort, but they do have a purpose and they do beat a rock.

Closer is always better, if you can retain the element of surprise. And that is one of the great things about a concealed weapon, and why I don't favor open carry. The element of surprise is worth an awful lot in a sticky situation.

Very well written, good advice.Using your parameters for a mousegun I have found snubby revolvers to be accurate for quick work out to 15-20 yds or so.Note I said "quick work" meaning flash sight picture and shoot.Practice is the key,I have found a steel frame Model 36 makes a good durable practice gun to complement an Airweight revolver.Mouseguns have their place and sometimes the only option.
