My daughter wants to go to Monroe La to visit a friend. I am having reservations, but have never been there personally. Any one have any opinions on Monroe?

I was through there a couple of tiimes last year, stayed in West Monroe. Seems like a nice enough area, though I'm sure it has its bad sections like all cities.

I lived in the twin cities (Monroe/West Monroe) and also Calhoun for several years when I was younger. Its was a really decent area but I haven't lived there for 10+ years now. I actually enjoyed living in northern Louisiana, its usually the further south you go the worse Louisiana gets. It does get hot there, the heat index there frequently got to 120 or more.

Catch a couple of episodes of "Duck Dynasty". I believe they're located in Monroe, LA. They seem to have good family values. And they love guns.

I interviewed for a job in Lake Charles La in August. It was the god awfulest heat and humidity. I'm sure living there one could cope as long as your career wasn't working outside.

Thanks Tnhawk,

Her freind lives in West Monroe but I will still be worried about my little girl when she is in Monroe. It was listed as one of the worst small towns in the country for crime.

I spent a lot of time down that way as a kid It's hotter than the 9 planes of hell, sand, pine tees, mosquitos you can saddle and ride. Louisiana, what's not to love? Take in a mud truck race, you can get a paper sack of crawfish to eat like popcorn. Fishin' ain't bad. Squirrels taste like turpentine. Just rednecks of a different flavor.

Monroe is more like Arkansas and Mississippi than it is Louisiana. Louisiana is kind of like 2 different states. Southern Louisiana is much more cajun influenced. Northern Louisiana is much more redneck influenced. If that makes any sense to you lol. It's also a college town. Not much else outside of the city, Vicksburg, MS is probably about an hour drive from there.
