Town Hall Meeting

My congressman Steve Cohen (TN 9th District), is have two Town Hall Meetings coming up, and I was wanting to go and see what I could add and take away from this meeting. As I was searching the world wide interweb for his voting record all I can find is where he is "Ineligible to Vote"...on GOA's website. Is there somewhere else I could look? Does anyone here have any suggestions of things to ask him about, (If I even get a chance to.)?

Regardless who he is friends with, you should make yourself heard. When Cohen was in the state Senate, he was by far the smartest person there. (Not saying much, I know.) He was also BY FAR the most liberal. He is certainly the most liberal (D) in the TN congressional delegation (again, not saying much, but there you go.)

I personally like Cohen because he was constantly a pain in Bredesen's left flank, but I can't imagine he would be anywhere near any pro-gun ballpark. Still, you should go and listen and ask a question or two and make up your own mind. My congressman sometimes forgets my county is in his district, so the fact that he's even having the meetings is a good sign in my book.

Ask him where the heck my stimulus check is?

Ask him why he felt the need to step in on Fords behalf to have him moved to a cushier prison.

Ask him Why he is no friend to gun owners?

Cohen is no friend of the Ford's. In fact they despise one another.

That being said, Steve Cohen makes Harold Jr. look like Jesse Helms. He is one of the most liberal members of the house, period which really says something when he competes with Henry Waxman and and that ilk. His record as a state senator was abysmal on gun rights.

I agree that he is smart. I wouldn't say he was the smartest on the hill. David Fowler and even though he has slipped in the last few years Douglas Henry are both extremely bright gentlemen.

I would listen and let him know you as a gun owner and member of his district are there. But don't try to go toe to toe with him unless you have an excellent A game. He is a real smart ass and will relish taking on anyone who tires to out legalize him.

Thanks for the advice. I would not even dare to think I could go toe to toe with him. My "A" game would be compared to his "L" game.:(

I was just wanting to start participating and understand local politics, better than I do know. I like to think that if a person doesn't like something he needs to let his voice be heard, and heard by people who could make a difference.

All I have done in the past is write letters, and I would like to make the next step, and this seemed like a good "Next Step".

He's somewhat of a friend or he wouldn't have pulled strings to get John Ford into a better prison facility.

NO! He is being political and he knew in that district he better do something to try and appease a constituency. After he won the dem nomination for that seat the Fords went on a tear. They ran a family member against him in the general as an independent. Not even the constituents in that district were fooled by the complete lack of any skills by that gentleman to be in office. They got the black ministers to run a smear campaign against him for being a white Jew and said he wouldn't represent their predom black district as well as a black man.

No no friend at all. Ford and Cohen served in the state senate together for over 20 years. Ford was the most hated man in the legislature. This move was all political. And probably a good move on his part.

I commend your desire to get involved and learn. It absolutely can't hurt that's for sure.
