Gun Safe In Unheated Garage

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have a gun safe in their garage? I have an area inside a storage closet in the garage that is attached to my house. I know it's not an ideal place with the humidity in West TN but can it be done safely using extra precautions?

I store some in the garage and learned quick that ya gotta keep a good layer of CLP on them. With a good layer of oil you should be fine, but there is no way to reasonably dehumidify the space.

You must have a well sealed safe (as opposed to a gun cabinet), keep your toys well oiled, and use one of the fancy electronic dehumidifiers.

Yep, everything said above and plenty of desiccant. If you have an electrical outlet inside your safe to plug in your Golden Rod, make sure the outside of the safe where the electric comes in is well sealed also. Make sure you don't have any finger prints on blued surfaces or you'll have a personal finger print card. Don't store pistols in gun rugs either, they retain moisture.
