45acp LSWC problems

I loaded my first 20 45acp lead semi wad cutter roads today. These were my first attempts at 45 rounds but not my first reloads. So my problem is I am cutting into the bullet with the 3 piece Lyman dies. I'm guessing the roll crimp is built into the bullet seater die? The bullets are loosing the wax ring as it's getting pushed by the casing and some times the bullet is loosing pieces lead when seating the bullet. I'm using the same brand dies and the same brand bullets as in my 38 and 44 reloads. The actual diameter of the bullets are .452. This is what I've measured and whats on the box. I'm measuring OAL of about 1.24 and If I seat in the wax ring it's too long ~1.26(and won't load into a magazine). Are the bullets too big in Diameter or is it something with the dies? Also I have manually cycled them in my CW45, my only 45 btw, and they the opening of the casing catches on part of the slide 1 out of 6 times. They load fine and will eject if there isn't a round in the magazine all the time.

Sounds like maybe you are not flaring the case enough before seating the boolit. If it is shaving lead, that is the problem. 452's should load just fine. They do in mine. Your dies for the 45ACP should not be roll crimping, but should be taper crimping. Don't seat in the lube groove. Seat the boolit deeper and it should work better.

I load Lee 190gr SWC's in my 45 and just barely have a shoulder of the boolit sticking out of the case. When I first started loading this boolit, I seated them too long and they would not chamber. Just a few thousandths can make all the difference.

Ok, I raised the die and then lowered the center piece and that took care of it. I'm still having the case coming out of the chamber hitting the top of the next round though. I may not be able to shoot this type bullet and may have to go to a RN

I cast and load a 200gr LSWC in my 45. They need be seated down to near the shoulder of the bullet to function. The shoulder of the bullet should be just barely above the case. The long nose of the SWC design requires them to be seated a little deep. They function great in both of my 1911's.

keep in mind that you are cycling by hand,... most 1911s are cycling at less than 1 tenth of a second (not sure where I read that but high sped cameras will show how fast it is) the bottom of the slide should hold the lower round down and out of the way for the millisecond it takes to clear when actually firing.

"and they the opening of the casing catches on part of the slide 1 out of 6 times. Hope this helps
