I've mainly always seen the forend replacement, but there are some mounts that clamp to your extension tube as well. I've seen some velcro stap thingies, but I wouldn't pursue those. I've also seen what looked almost like a scope mount (and may actually have been) that was mounted above the gun with a light in it.

Maybe someone else can chime in with a possible alternative.

Any specific reason you are against the forend mount/replacement?

EDIT: Here's an example of the upper rail mount - http://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=ASM220

You could attach a light, holo sight, or laser with a mount such as that... or any combo. Just to give you an idea.

My Setup is made up of a Mossberg 590A1, Streamlight 69901, Command Arms FAS2, and SureFire G3

I use a 9V ultrafire with a cree emitter and strobe, mounted to a tri-rail mount with a scope mount that uses two screws.

It is pretty solid and I can easily reach it with my finger. I am just not into tape switches.

Thanks for the help! I like having an option since the Surefire forend is pretty expensive.

No problem same reason I went with my setup, plus the light was a gift.

if you look on shotgunworld.com they have a tactical forum that's pretty cool. I have a catalog from Lyman that has the Tacstar (WLS) 200 that looks really cool. At $100 it's not cheap, but it's much cheaper than the Surefire forend(that I'm sure is awesome BTW). I cannot speak for its function or reliability, but if it works like it says it would I'm sure it's great. The switch is taped to your forend so you can use your thumb to activate it, then there is a long springy cord than attaches to the light.
