New Mexico Cancels Reciprocity witn TN

Recommended Posts

Do we still fingerprint (#2) ?

Yes, of course.

If indeed NM's own concealed carry permit rules haven't changed, then this is a result of a different AG or whoever re-looking at the issue after years of a previous policy.

Ironically, you can have loaded gun in private vehicle and open carry there, so it's really splitting hairs for them to do it, but do it they have.

TNDOS site still shows reciprocity w/ NM.

Also still shows that WI doesn't recognize TN permit, but was almost certain it showed WI did shortly after first of the year.

What is the penalty there for carrying concealed in NM without a license. Isn't it just a petty misdemeanor? I remember some time back that it was like a parking ticket and you didn't even have your gun taken. Of course you can open carry out there or carry open or concealed in your car without a license.

You are correct.

But as a reminder, TGO prohibits discussing illegal activity, so no one should carry illegally in NM regardless.

Gary Slider of Handgun USA reports on Defensive Carry.org that NM has reversed their decision to cancel reciprocity with a lot of the states. TN is back on the list. Three states had already removed NM from their list!

Looks like a pretty fluid situation according to their webpage.

As far as TN goes....it looks like they will want to modify to the reciprocity agreement so that TN permits issued to non-citizens are not valid in NM, but all others would be.

Now how a NM LEO is supposed to know the difference other than to just ask, I'm not really sure.
