I recently became unemployed, and have always wanted to go to gunsmith school. At 25, I figure it now or never. What/where are some highly reputable gunsmith courses available near Chattanooga? Ive looked into Penn Foster and Ashworth online schools, but arent sure if there any good or not. Also, I am unsure as to whether or not the online route is the way to go, or should I be willing to move or what not to take a class in person? Please help!

You cannot become a good gunsmith taking online courses. You will miss out on all of the hands-on aspects of learning the trade.

I suspect you'll have to relocate for an accredited school. There are a few out there, but I always here talk about the one n Colorado. I don't know the name or exact location, but I'm sure it won't be hard to find.

One thing to think about is the usually huge difference between in-state tuition and out-of-state tuition. I spoke with someone not long ago who decided to move to Colorado long before (not sure exactly how long before) the course started so he could qualify for the hugely discounted in-state tuition prices. He said this was a good idea, because he had to spend thousands of dollars on tools and supplies to take the gunsmith course.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I figured doing it online would be like the half assed way of going about it. The school in Colorado is the only one I had heard of, but I didn't know if it was the only one, or if there were ones closer. By any chance do you know a loose estimate of the tuition? I probably won't be able to afford it either way lol
