I have one and can tell you the quality is about as good as it gets. I did the conversion on mine and it's a great gun. Not to mention for $250-$300 you can have a Russian made AK variant. They're probably the best deal in the AK world, hands down.

PS: Typing in caps is considered bad internet "etiquette".

Saiga's are the closest thing to an true Russian Ak you can get. Read that as the best AK you can get. You can't go wrong with Saiga's.

Here's mine.

No worries.

 It's a great gun for a DIYer. $250 for the gun, $100-$150 for the parts for the conversion, 3 or so hours of your time, and presto, you've got yourself a beautiful Russian mistress.

If only we had a dealer around here that carried them.:(

You can find them for about $250 online. I think Rabbi has a Saiga in his shop every now and then from what I hear.

Why do they need a "conversion?" I know nuttin' about 'em...

They come as a "hunting rifle" configuration and will not take standard AK mags. So to add a pistol grip and mag well you have to convert them, which I hear isnt that hard.

I sold one just this week to a list member.

I carry them often. Of course you can, I am certain, find them cheaper elsewhere.

To make it legal to import as a sporting arm it comes like this.

to get it useful you can convert it to something like this.

East Side usually has a few varieties as well as Guns and Leather. You can get Saiga's in 7.62x39, .308, .223, 12g, 20g, & .410. The 12g are hard to find and run about twice the others.

Here is a 12g converted.

I can understand why the 12g is twice as much. That "invisibility package" would cost even more, I would think... :P

I bought a Saiga 7.62 with the 20" barrel Thursday from Rabbi and couldn't be happier. He's got a great place over there and worth taking the time to stop by.

The wife even got a chance to meet Rabbi and thanked him for getting me started in IDPA..ok well it was more like "so your to blame"...

As far as the Siaga, I plan on changing a few things but It's a great rifle right out of the box.

Nate, is that the "UltiMAK" rail?

I LUV my Saiga 7.62! The conversion isn't that hard, but a drill press and a Dremel definitely makes it easier. I'm thinking seriously about adding a 223 Saiga to the collection.
