Noticed on the way in to Citizens Bank in Gainesboro it had a gunbusters sign a couple windows over from main doors. It couldnt be more than a 2x2 size sign. Been going in a couple years nows and just noticed it. By law does it have to be on main entrance doors? Thats the way I always understood it.

Thanks!

Statute says:

"Notice of the prohibition permitted by subsection (a) shall be accomplished by displaying one (1) or both of the notices described in subdivision (b,3) in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the property, building, or portion of the property or building where weapon possession is prohibited. Either form of notice used shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering the building, property, or portion of the building or property, posted."

To our knowledge on TGO, no case law exists regarding exact interpretation.

Our state AG has opined that one may be found guilty of carrying in a park even if the park is not posted at all (even though law dictates it must be), so as always many TN weapons laws have gray tinge.

FWIW... I never look for signs when I enter buildings. Coincidentally, I never see any.

(any signs. I don't like reading a bunch of garbage. I don't look at billboards either, and I skip commercials. It's all crap that I'm not interested in.)

I wouldn't ask the bank about the sign, if it is legal or not. Don't ask don't tell. It doesn't sound legal. Like anything, make sure you have a good lawyer who can deal with a problem should one arise.

Mcurrier-You sound like the people who constanly frustated me at Blockbuster whenever we put up large signs in bold sharpie that our computer system was down. Somehow almost nobody ever noticed the signs.

For some reason...I do tend to notice relevant signs. I'm just good that way. Believe me my friend, I'm on the receiving end of frustration, not the giving end.
