Need some ideas on how to improve the visibility of the front site on an M1 Carbine without damaging the original site. Eyes are going fast and something that would brighten up the front site would be nice.

Bright orange paint dabbed on it should work if you want to keep the original sight.

i found that if you paint it white first and then paint it your color choice, it stands out better.

That sounds like great ideas. I will try orange - sounds good and appropriate for TN.

Thanks

+1 on the white undercoat. I use Testers model paint.

For my 642 I start with a white undercoat, then add a florecent orange topcoat. I'm still on my first application even after many cleanings.

I've tried these combos...

2 coats of white

white/florecent green

...I liked florecent orange best.

I'm off to get some model paint tomorrow. I definitely am going to try orange first.

Thanks, Bill

Put a white undercoat on the front, followed by a coat or two of the orange. The white will definitely make it brighter and give a much better result.
