Target Practice on Public Land near Knoxville?

Howdy folks,

I'm not 100% if this should go here or not, but figured it wouldn't fit anywhere better.

I've been paying to practice shooting at Coal Creek Armory here in Knoxville, and at the public range in Norris. I'm getting ready to start doing some reviews on different firearms where I will be filming and am looking for a public location in Knox or Anderson counties (I myself live in Clinton) but don't mind driving a bit.

Wondering if any of you know of an area on Public Land that is 100% legal to target shoot/practice/film.

Thanks!

Josh

There is no place as you describe. Yes, there are shooting ranges on public land but that's the extent of it...ranges.

Ouch. I was afraid of that. I've heard from both a friend and an Uncle who say that they've shot in various places, out in the woods of Briceville and some TVA land near Melton Lake that weren't ranges, but I'm the kind of person who has to make 100% sure first that I'm above the board.

I can't imagine there are people at Chuck Swan during the week, it is not too awful far from Clinton.

Why can't you use a range?

Mike, you mention the possibility of Chuck Swan, which is an WMA (wild life management area). There are a number of other WMAs in the area (Royal Blue, to the North and Forks of the River, to the South). While hunting I've never seen a 'no target practice' sign. Do you think these areas may be ok?

Actually, after reading this link - http://www.tn.gov/twra/wmas.html - it says no target shooting except on designated ranges on WMAs.

Chuck Swan has a range, or at least it did. I have not been there in a couple of years.

It had a couple of benches and target stands out to a hundred yards.

No charge for using it.

Oh awesome. I did some research on that range and also found that Royal Blue (just North of me) also has one. I'll follow up with them! This is great, I appreciate your help!
