I think it's a fake virus warning. I got the "Windows has detected a virus" popup... I'm on a Mac. Looks like it redirects you to somewhere else for a fake virus scan and attempts to download something.

It actually forces the file download for PC.

But M$ Security caught it for me.

That is strange, I opened in two different browsers and get no pop-ups or virus warning.

It is my main news source and visit multiple times daily.

a number of malware and adware etc are tripped by semi-shady ad vendors. That means the offending ad is randomized and may not show up for all people. If you block ads or scripts, you may not trip a warning. If your virus warn does not catch it because you have safe browsing and ganked the scrip before it got started, you see nothing in that case either. /shrug lots of other reasons some would see it and others not.

I hear that those never-get-a-virus macs even have the occasional botnet problem. And one of the first viruses of all time was on a unix box. Nothing is safe, really, no matter what browser you use or what OS. You can reduce the risk, but never quite eliminate it without going ultra hard core such as elimination of all external data.
