Lever action 357/38 special

i recently saw someone post one in classifieds that cought my eye and i have always wanted a good lever gun, what is the best deal for the money on one, all info is apreciated

You honestly don't know how to search for ammo prices yet? Maybe a trip by Walmart to get an idea?

.357 lever rifles are in $500-850 price range. When you can find one.

yeah i can go look but i figured people who reload and shoot the round could kind of give me a heads up

Well, you've asked this same question in the last year about every firearm type and caliber made since 1900, so thought you probably had your own database by now. Or at least a reloader's catalog.

im usually asking about ammo prices on stuff you cant buy at the store like the 303, 8mm mauser and other cslibers stores dont often carry and maybe its just a habbit

I paid $350 two years ago for a Marlin .38/.357 short barrel carbine for shootin' Cowboy. I just bought the Marlin Cowboy with octagonal barrel in .45 for $800. It was a hard to find rifle but I wanted to shoot all .45's in matches. One grandson shoots .38 Vaqueros so the Marlin .38 works well. We shoot the snot out of these rifles and have to crank out 400-500 rounds a month on my Dillon 550B just to keep up. There is no way we could buy bulk ammo and shoot as much as the four of us do. Prices on reloading vary, but avoid the hazmat fees by buying in a LGS that gets wholesale prices and can pass on the savings. Primers we get at monthly matches and have been running $30/1000 large or small. Deals can also be gotten from local bullet makers that significantly reduce that cost. I usually get powder, Trail Boss, from Midway or Sportsman's Warehouse, whoever is cheaper hazmat included. Odd bullets like .32 for my grandaughter's revolvers come from Missouri Bullet Co, always a good buy especially if a local maker isn't around.

The Rossi M92's are nice guns for the money. I have one of the carbines and it is my favorite gun. I prefer the 16" or 18" barrel as you don't gain much velocity once you get over 18". Looking around the $450-$500 range if and when you can find them. They are pretty true Winchester 92's without the price. The wood isn't the nicest but that is easily fixable.

+1 on the Rossi M92, just bought one yesterday with a 16" barrel. I found a ballistic chart for .357 through different length barrels, and turns out 16" gives the most oomph:

I love all six of mine. I buy bulk .38 to plink with. You can find bulk 38 near the 9mm price and then I get some 357 to shoot for kick now and then.

You can get some fairly cheap 38 special ammo to mess around with. Lever guns tend to be slightly higher than they really outta be --- be prepared to spend on it like a handgun, prob at least $400 and up.
