LT. GOV RAMSEY seems ready to support anti-gun agenda

Sadly, the Lt. Governor seems poised to cave to the anti-gun lobby in our state. He has been making noises that the Safe Commute bill is "dead" in the senate. If he hears from enough of us he may have a change of heart on this wrongheaded way of thinking. We must act soon as the legislation is due for a floor vote this week. Below is Ramsey's contact information.

Ramsey has been posturing in the Senate and making statements left and right about how the gun bill is dead. Well, if he actually had the votes rounded up, he wouldn't have to posture. Because he has to say anything, he might not really have the power he's pretending he has. If I were Ramsey, I might walk a fine line. I don't think a lot of Senators are going to appreciate being told their points of view and votes don't count because Ramsey will trump them by keeping the issue off the calendar. He could be doing all that behind the scenes and saying NOTHING if he actually had this all locked up. It might all be going to a vote because the Senators want it so. If it gets enough votes, the Governor would be shy about vetoing it. I might be living in an imaginary world, but . . . .

Just sent this.

Lt. Gov. Ramsey

I can't even begin express my disappointment in your handling of the Safe Commute bill that has been a hot topic this session. I remember you telling the TFA that your are our friend and a strong supporter of 2A issues. Now it seems that was only to win our votes and you, like most politicians, just "Tell em what they want to hear". I really thought that you were the exception to the rule but once again my faith in a politician has been flushed down the toilet.

Having HCP holders be able to drive back and forth to a workplace and store those guns in a locked car on a parking lot of an employer who prohibits firearms would not endanger anyone. It a crying shame that you have chosen to side with FedEx rather than to keep your word to those of us that voted for you and were counting on you to do what you said. I'm 54 years old and was brought up to trust people and what they say. You have betrayed that trust, not only to me but every HCP holder in TN.

I'm through with you.

Sincerely,

Mr Ramsey,

How much money has big business given to your campaign to buy your vote?

If we give you five percent more, will you let us buy back your vote?

Please advise.

Ramsey is unopposed in his race for his current seat. From where he is sitting, he has no down side to cozying up to Fed Ex.

The only way to get his attention is to keep those cards and letter coming in, and then posting what you send.

Worriedman is right. Email your rep and let him (or her) know you expect better than this from Ramsey.

However, he *is* subject to election as Speaker of the Tennessee Senate and this position is selected by your local senators each legislative session. Put pressure on them.

Tell them to vote "NO" on Ron!

It will cost him ~$48K per year in salary.

Actually it is NOT scheduled to be heard on the floor. I wish it were, that is the hang up right now. Right now, the Senate version is stuck in the Calendar and Rules committee. That is where all bills go to be put on the full floor schedule after being passed in the earlier committees. When I say "stuck" I mean just that. Mike Faulk, the bill sponsor is ALSO the Chairman of the Calendar and Rules committee. I see no other reason for him to not put the bill on notice in Calendar and Rules other than Ramsey squeezing him hard. It HAS to get through THAT committee to get to the floor.

NOW, what IS scheduled to be heard this week, (and this also is NOT on the floor) is the House version of the bill by Eddie Bass. That bill is in the House Calendar and Rules committee for the same reason. That committee determines WHEN the bill is to be heard on the floor of the House.

We need a major push. Calls, emails, you name it, to Ramsey and Faulk. Also the members of the House Calendar and Rules Committee need to be contacted. Contact YOUR Senator and Representative and tell them you expect them to support the Safe Commute AND you want them to contact the Calendar and Rules committees of their respective chambers to tell them they want the bills on the floor.

As for Ramsey himself. He will run unopposed as Worriedman pointed out. Just like Harwell, we will not be able to defeat either of them in the general election. What CAN be done is put serious challenges to a few of their support base. Maggart stands to face a very strong challenger and could be defeated. What has to be done is take away the support base of these hypocrits. It also sends a message to other vulnerable members that we will not tolerate another session with Harwell or Ramsey at the helm.

We many not be able to get them out of the House or Senate but we can cause them to loose their postitions as Speaker and Lt. Governor by defeating their base.

Again, we need a MAJOR onslaught of calls and emails tomorrow, MONDAY, the 23rd. And it certainly IS NOT too early to start hammering Governor Haslam on this. As hard as it has been to get these bills this far, it would be almost impossible to muster any veto override. He HAS to be convinced that a veto would be suicide. Most of us may not be able to actually cast any votes in regards to Ramsey or Harwell but we certainly CAN cast votes against Haslam

Here is my note to the TN Senate Calendar Committee, with copies to Gov. Haslam, Lt. Gov Ramsey, and Sen. McNally

I will send a similar one to the House Committee with appropriate copies.

Dear Gentlemen of the Senate Calendar Committee,

I understand that the Safe Commute Bill (Sponsored by Senator Faulk) is resting in your committee.

Please move it forward to be heard on the floor of the full Senate in this current session. Please let the Senators of the People of Tennessee determine the outcome of this issue (and thus not solely at the discretion of Lt. Governor Ramsey and FEDEX/Volkswagon).

Warmest regards,

Bert

Very well said Bert. Your letter is short, to the point and does it politely and in a non threatening way. I have a tendency to get a bit long-winded. If it is ok with you, I would like to use it.

It is now in the public domain :usa:

I will also encourage all to send a personal note of encouracement to the bill sponsors (just a appreciation).

Senator Faulk (as sponsor) has to put the bill "On Notice' or it goes nowhere. He is also the Chairman of the Calender and Rules Committee. The only two people who truly have any sway over the movement of the bill are Senator Faulk and Lt. Gov. (Speaker of the Senate) Ron Ramsey.
