Enfield question

Hey guys. A buddy of mine called me earlier saying he had run across an Enfield, SHT LE MKIII, 1916 date stamp in really good shape for $189 out the door. Based on the cursory amount of research I did while on the phone with him, it looks like a good price to me. I told him if he can get them to hold it for him (which they said they would) he should do a little more checking. What do you guys think?

Not sporterized, he says he sees no rust or corrosion, stock has no more dings and whatnot than you would expect in a 90+ year old battle rifle. Where would all the S/N's be? I told him look at barrel receiver, bolt and the mag, he says he didn't see anything on the mag.

He's picking it up in about 3 hours. He's sitting within arm's reach of me right now. Should I take his ID and snag it for myself?

OUTSTANDING Buy! :woohoo:

Is that a vintage 1907 sling with it? That could make it even a BIGGER OUTSTANDING Buy.

I'm not sure about the sling. Seems newer than the rifle to me, but still fairly old. The rifle appears to have gone through the upgrade process at some point, as the magazine cut-off has been removed as you can see in the second and last images. The action is very free and smooth on the gun, and the firing pin spring feels like it has good tension on it. Bore is VERY dirty, but doesn't look corroded. Should clean up with some elbow grease. I'm quite jealous.

Very good buy!

That sling is definitenly a US M1907. Whether or not it's original will need to be figured out but it does look like it's been around the block.
