Remington Story on Rock Center w/ Brian Williams

Did anyone see this last night?

I know there has been a history of controversy related to remington and their trigger group. A few things I noticed throughout the peice:

1. Every 'accidental discharge' seemed to have several basic gun safety violations perpetrated by the user.

2. If the problem was really so rampant, why would NBC not by a remington - take it to a lab - drop the gun on the butt of the stock - and film the results.

This story came across to me as a liberal news organization pushing an agenda of increased government regulation over the gun industry.

What do you guys think?

I saw the story. Rock Center is supposed to be an in-depth news show, not snippets like the evening news. They had plenty of time to describe and demonstrate what the detractors claim to be the actual problem with Remington's trigger group, but they didn't. If Tom Butters is so convinced that the trigger group is faulty, why didn't he demonstrate a failure? That was the most disappointing part.

Yes, each case of injury or death violated at least 2 of the 10 commandments. They even commented on that. But they also made the point to say that it shows even experienced sportsmen can make a mistake.

I thought they did a decent job at the end in the studio of clarifying that none of the people they featured wanted more government regulation of the industry, and that they all admitted they had some responsibility in the accidents. They also showed that it's not a widespread problem by talking with the guy that runs the clay target range, and by citing how many millions of guns Remington has produced with this part group and just how few accidents there are that claim to be related to the problem.

In the end though, lack of a demonstration of the reported flaw made it look more like a drive-by piece against Remington. I can guarantee it will hurt their sales. After the story my wife asked if we have any of those. Nope, and because of this, I won't. Partly because I'd never really trust it, but mostly because my wife is now going to ask about every long gun that comes in the door "Is that one of those that was on Rock Center?" I just don't want to have to deal with that.

Starts out with a story that happened 14 year ago. Remington has long since fixed these issues.

I used to live on a mountain in Culpepper Virginia. Our neighbor was about a mile away, self sufficient people, father cut wood and hunted to keep the lights on and family fed. Thanksgiving 1977 father and 16 year old son went out that morning hunting, came back for Thanksgiving dinner. The son laid his 12 gauge up against the wall in the kitchen. It fell over and went off, blowing his head off. We didnt have a phone, and they only had a base station CB, it took the Ambulance about 2 hours to get there, wouldnt have mettered anyway, he was gone.

It appears that Rock Center, or NBC News for that matter, is just as negligent in their discharges as they accuse Remington of being.

Remember when they tried this with the 700's last year? NBC's "expert" has testified in court that he couldn't reproduce the issue either. Pure anti-gun BS from NBC. I'm glad Remington is fighting back again: http://www.respectremington.tv/#/home

Let's see Remington 700 Bolt action... One of the most copied precision rifle actions used by military and LE. If you want to beat another dead horse let me tell you about the Glock. Ignorant people that have thier own agenda and not the smarts or cojones to report on real problems. Like the FDA, ATF,IRS.
