Stainless Steel Media

Has anyone tried an used a Stainless Steel Media system?

http://www.stainlesstumblingmedia.com/

I like this and I have one on the way. The part I like is it will clean the primer pockets and the pins will pass through the primer flash hole.

This would take away the time consuming process of picking out the flash hole of the media I use. Plus the hand cleaning of the primer pocket.

It also looks like it will clean the inside of the brass well.

I like shinny brass........... so this might work well for me.

The biggest downside of SS is, when you're done, you're left with a pile of wet brass.

Your walnut and corncob media eventually will wear out. SS never will. Nor will they clean primer pockets and inside case necks like SS.

Contact username susaponte @snipers hide by PM. He'll reply by PM to put you in touch with someone who'll sell you SS media for about half the price of that online place linked to in the OP.

I'm new to reloading brass and decided to go the SS media route. I got most of my build ideas from ARFCOM. I did buy some walnut shell media to try out and thought it was dusty. I figured puring some dirty water down the drain and laying out the brass to dry was a better way to go, at least for me.

Here are some pics of my set up. This is 900 9mm cases.

Finally got my tumbler finished. Holds 12lb of media, 2 gallons of water, and can tumble over 10lb of brass at a time.

I ordered my media and a couple parts from http://biggdawgtumblers.net/. Bruce is a great guy to deal with and responds quickly to email. I used parts of his design and put a little twist on it to save space. I just got it painted and put back together today. What I've tumbled came out great.

Best use I've ever seen for a treadmill...

No kidding. Now the wheels are spinning in my head and I'm kinda glad I have yet to get rid of that treadmill that the wife wants out of her way! Of course, I'm left with the issue of the wife wanting the treadmill out of the way. Hmmm...

If I didn't have money invested in the standard ( corn cob, walnut ) media, I would definitely go with

the stainless set up. From what I read, it's great.

I can replace my standard media many times before it would become worth replacing my tumblers with a new system. If I were starting reloading today, it would be worth consideration.

It's not a raw cost issue. I can tumble more cases at a time, the primer holes and inside of the cases get cleaned, and there is no dust. The worst part is drying the cases. It is still faster if you take the primer hole cleaning time into account.

There is no comparison to the quality of cleaning, the process removes all dirt, powder residue, and especially the primer residue, which I think is the best advantage. Brass is as clean on the inside as outside.

As far as longevity of the brass, I have 100 pcs .25 -.307 Ackley Improved wildcat brass that I have run hot for 16 loadings so far, (I also anneal ever 4 firings, which I think makes a difference as well) without having to trash any, and am at 12 loadings on Winchester brass for my H-bar that is specific to that weapon, out of 200 pcs I believe I have lost 2 or 3 to neck splits only.
