AK build coming along nicely

Hey guys, this is my current saiga ak build. Next thing up is polishing the bolt and ramps then threading the barrel. Heres a couple pics

Very nice build. Where did you get the rail set up/front hand guard?

What did it start out as?

started out a regular saiga sporter ak, so far i've done the conversion to move the pistol grip and replaced with hogue, installed a G2 trigger group and a performance hammer spring. Also drilled, tapped and installed bullet guide so it can use standard ak mags. I then Installed the front quad rail and a CAA adjustable butt stock. I sanded the rifle down and refinished it. Just installed a scope mount and scope tonight.

Its was starting to come off in different areas from use i guess, i've seen them polished and liked the look, if i don't like it, i could just duracoat it all again

Looks great. I love that hand guard. What scope did you use?

A cheap 3x9 scope that got a lot of good reviews, so far i'm happy with it. The adjustment dials feel a little cheap to me, but for a $70 scope, can't expect much lol.

Have you seen them polished to bare steel or are you comparing it to chromed? Big difference.

I'm polishing it with mothers mag polish, coming along nicely, just taking a while, time consuming. doesn't look bad, i'll post up some pics tomorrow of the progress. Anyone have a sand blaster??

What the others are getting at, is that you are probably polishing away the finish and will have untreated metal exposed and probably isn't a good idea.

Look at getting it Hard Chromed or Nickle Boron treated if you want it shiny. It will help keep your bolt and carrier from corroding and still be shiny.

There is a how to polish your Saiga bolt on Saiga 12 forums, they are polishing the bottom of the bolt and carrier for a smoother action. A few vendors there do it and shine up the whole thing. Looks really cool though.
