I sold mine as soon as wife became pregnant with our first child. I have missed it but do not regret my decision. Glad you are relatively okay Nate. Best wishes and get well soon.

Just an update. It was a little worse than it seemed. Left the Orthopedist yesterday.... and had surgery today. They had to put a stainless plate down the side of my Tibia and screwed in the three bone pieces together. The SUV driver did in fact hit my ankle. The doc said from the side it looked like he had gone after it with a hammer.

Here's some pics for the voyeurs out there. Pics don't really capture how bad they really look.

Here's a comparison of my legs.

I have been riding for over 50 years here in Nebraska and have been ran off the road several times but never have been hit--been close. My family has been in the cycle business since 1947 and I still run a small repair shop. Had to slow down on riding due to some back problems. When you are on a bike you have to watch every other vehicle around you because they will run over you and then say that they didn`t see you and they think that will let them off the hook. Good Luck and mend fast.

In my experience in riding I learned how to spot when a car was about to change lanes,or pull out of a parking lot, etc. It was almost like a spider sense, lol.

Now when I'm driving my car I can still spot these people and make appropriate measurements.

Here a while back I used this spider sense while I had a friend with me.We were driving down Brained rd when all of the sudden I slowed down rapidly, leaving just enough time to allow the soccer mom on a cell phone in the next lane to cut me off.If I hadnt done this she would have removed my front bumper for me :P

The girl with me saw this and looked at me like she seen a ghost, and ask how I knew.I smiled and said spider sense baby, spider sense:p

Looks like the brain bucket did its job:tinfoil:. I know lots of people look down on half helmets but I cant stand to cover my ears up, I like to hear the bike and my surroundings to better know whats around me. I am glad you were not hurt any worse than you were, just remember more chrome on the new bike. I would also like to add a note for my bike riding gun carrying family about those that have protected our rights and our upcoming chance to honor them. I am talking about the Memorial weekend ride that begins in Sevierville, TN. it is the Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride to honor our past and present vets. We had over 1000 bikes last year with full State, Police :cop:and and County escort through five counties with services before and after and flags and people waving all along the way.:koolaid: Please come out and help us hit 1500 or more this year.

Ride safe and hit your target, Rando;)

Nate, glad to hear that you are OK. Bikes can be replaced - lives and limbs cannot.

I do the same thing both on the bike and in a cage. I ride as tho I'm invisible, because for all intents and purposes, I am. If a person in a cage can put me in a bad situation, I'll get out of the way and not let that opportunity present itself.
