Today's project...Pistol Hangers

I've been looking at the pistol hangers that slide on a safe shelf and hold the pistol by the barrel. Well I had some scrap steel rod laying around and started bending until I got the shape down and had tension on everything to hold the pistols and then rounded the rods ends and wrapped everything with wire shrink wrap. My first 2 were just guesses about length, but I found some pistols that would work in them. Here's some of the pictures:

The most difficult one was making the bends for a reverse hold that I had to do with the Ranch Hand, I also had to make a small hook to hold the back end, it was just too much for the 3/16" rod. The .454 Super Red Hawk is a bit too heavy too. All the hangers were made of 3/16" steel rod, I think either 12 or 14 gauge and covered in black shrink wrap. I bought 3 rods and went through about 5 small packs of shrink wrap all of which cost about $25. Pretty cheap and I still have enough left over for about 1 or 2 more hooks.

Dehumidifier works good as far as I can tell. I've only had the safe for about a month now. I've been looking for something to keep the safe neat and clean and easy to access. I'm picking up the rest of my guns from my parents at Easter and getting a few back from MCC soon as well, so there will be more pistols cluttering up that shelf so I can only figure on making more of them and getting another pistol rack.

Nice. Never would have thought to do that inside the safe. I hang my air tools in a similar way in the shop.

While I appreciate the ingenuity and effort, I'm not so sure I want to stuff anything up the bore of my weapons. Maybe I'm just overcautious.

Looks good! I did the same thing another way, took 2 boards, nail together to make a 90 degree angle, drilled holes and glued in a couple of inches of dowl rods across it, and my guns sit with the dowel in the barrel and rest on their grips in a nice row. Same general effect, but yours is probably neater.

What was done will not hurt the bore. There are products commercially available that do the same thing.

Another option for standing guns up on the shelf is a section of rack from and old dishwasher. The rubber coating would protect the finish.

I think the OP's creation looks good and appears very functional.

I like what was described with dowl sticks too.

You stick cleaning rods up the bore, right? They're as likely if not more likely to scratch it.

I go in through the breech with a one piece rod and a guide. Greater chance of ruining the bore if you go in through the muzzle end.

I saw the commercially produced ones and thought, why buy what can be made for less. My first 2 were done for $7.42 for all the supplies, Brownells sells 2 for $8 and another $6 shipping. It is all rubber coated and the ends have been rounded so I doubt it will do anything to the barrel of any of the pistols.

oo, I won the price war even if yours is neater. I think it was like $5 worth of wood, dowel rod, and nails and all. The dowels are like pine or something soft, also won't hurt a barrel. Its about 10 pistols wide.
