Nashville man dies in likely accidental shooting

I just don't understand. I NEVER point the gun at ANY part of my body even while cleaning. I even use a bore camera to look down it. I just don't understand how this keeps happening.

Man, this is just crazy. I safety check my weapon like 3 times and make sure there is no ammo anywhere near me when I clean it. I also never point the thing at myself unless it is completely dismantled, and then very seldom. Someone is not being very careful!

Sorry to be cold; this is a self-correcting problem.

Correct your procedures or your procedures will correct you.

Thankfully, there was no collateral damage, wife, children, neighbors.

Gun cleaning accident can save the family added grief of it being a suicide.

I always think suicide in these instances.

Sad that someone thinks it their only option.

You may be right. Sounds like you've come to this thought from long or repeated exposure.

I know of a semi-public figure who died "from a fall" (out of a window and down several stories).

A knox deputy told me once that if they respond to something like this and there is anything resembling gun cleaning supplies around they call it accidental.

In many cases "accidentally shot himself while cleaning it" is code for suicide.

Sad but true. One of my high school friends died "while cleaning his pistol." He was a cool guy too. Sorry it had to end that way.

When I was 7, our neighbor's son committed suicide. I didn't know any better at the time but I distinctly remember one of the deputies telling my dad that he was "dialing in the sights on his rifle".

Depending on the persons life insurance policy, an accidental death may pay a double indemnity and suicide may not be covered at all. Good reason to make it look like an accident I suppose.
