I may be able to add to this topic...I got my first 1911 around Christmas of last year. I shopped around for about 6 months in my spare time groping every one I could get my hands on, asking anyone who would listen for information, and price shopping. I ended up with a Springfield Armory TRP. That being said, a close second was the Springfield Range officer. It has a lot of options of the higher end pistols, but for much cheaper. I didn't feel right when I left the gunshop with my credit card smoking from the price of the TRP, but all of that changed as soon as I pulled the trigger the first time...good luck!

SPRINGFIELD TRP IS MY VOTE BUT YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH A KIMBER TACTICAL HD EITHER BUT IF YOU HAVE NEVER OWNED A 1911 DEFINATELY GET A FULL SIZED TO START WITH THAT WAY YOU REALLY GET THAT NOSTALGIC FEELING OF A 1911 AND THEN GO BUY YOU A COMMANDER OR A PRO LENGTH ONE FOR A CARRY 1911
