Middle TN Friends of the NRA Dinners

Hello Everyone:

Mike Webb, the NRA Field Rep for Tennessee, has asked me to serve on the committee putting together one of the middle-TN area FoNRA dinners this year. Nashville of course has a HUGE dinner, but many people dont know about the many smaller dinners scattered around the region.

Mike has asked me to spread the word about the dinners this year, help sell tickets, and help develop a steeering committee planning the Sumner County dinner this year (it will be in Hendersonville in August).

We are trying to put together a committee meeting in April sometime in Hendersonville to begin the planning process for this year. I dont have the exact time/date/location yet, but will know soon.

If anyone is interested in attending or helping out on the committee, please PM me when you get a chance. I will get you details.

These dinners are fun, with lots of silent auction items, give-aways, etc. I won a nice little Savage Arms Cub .22lr rifle last year -just for showing up. The more people that show up, the more fun there is. A great place to meet some nice people.

Btw, for those of us who are not the biggest fans of NRA, it should be noted that all the proceeds of these dinners benefit the NRA Foundation (not the NRA -they are not quite the same thing) and LOCAL (in TN) educational efforts. FoNRA dinners raise the money for the foundation grants that help support local shooting teams, JROTC programs, etc.

We have a strange situation here in the Tri-Cities. The guy, and his wife, who organize the dinners do it for Virginia rather than Tennessee. Now I could see them doing that when they lived in Virginia, but now they work in Tennessee and even own a gun shop here. They also are in their second Tennessee home.

A lot of Tennessee people got tired of going to the dinner and the money being spent in Virginia.

All: Local dinners can be found here: http://www.nrafoundation.org/friends/states/find_event.asp?state=Tennessee

Reef: You are officially invited as my guest. Sat. Aug 25, 6pm Hendersonville High School Cafeteria, Cherokee Rd. Hendersonville, TN. If that is too far from wherever you live, we'll find you a closer one. I'll let you know when we have tickets, etc.

Mars: I have heard of this situation. The closest dinner I know of to you is in Knoxville. Details are below. We are trying to put together more FoNRA dinners state-wide. Tri-Cities would be an ideal location considering the nearest one to you is in Virginia. I'll let Mike Webb know about this. I bet he'll want to get you involved organizing one in Kingsport or somewhere, so if you dont want to be bothered, PM me and I'll keep my mouth shut.

Len, you are right that we need a dinner up here in the Tri-Cities. But they do take a lot of work to put on and I just don't have the time right now. Hell, I don't know if I'll be here in this country next week. So, I'll have to pass on helping set one up.

It would probably be good to set up the dinners in places with anti-gun politicians to remind them we do vote.

In addition to the NRA merchandise package we will have several items available from donors.

We have already had a generous donation of an SLR-15 AR-15 Rifle from Defensive Edge. www.SLR15.com The firearm is an SLR-15 Operator (Level 3) valued at $1278.00. This rifle will also have the Tactical Response Logo on the receiver. This rifle will be raffled off as a pre-event raffle. Tickets will be $10.00 each and you will not need to be present to win. Tickets will be available in approximately 2 weeks. I will post details when I have them.

In addition, Calvary Arms, http://www.cavalryarms.com/ has generously donated three AR-15 Lower Receivers that will be serial numbered TN-NRA 1, TN-NRA 2 and TN-NRA 3. These receivers will be available in the auction at the event.

We look forward to this year's event and expect it to sell out this year. Thanks in advance to all of you who support the NRA Foundation through your local Friends of The NRA Event.

Quick question... Len?

Wife wants to know what the menu will be, and how she should dress? Is this formal, semi-formal, casual? (she bought a new dress, and wants an excuse to wear it...)

Posted

I've never been to this place, never even heard of it, so I have no clue what the cuisine will be. As for dress, totally casual. This is just a bunch of people getting together to plan the event, nothing fancy.

Now, if you are talking about the actual dinner itself, it is also casual (I work khakis and collared shirt) and the food was bar-b-que last year. I assume it will be the same this time around.

See you Mon.
