I used to do a lot when I traveled as a corporate pilot. We'd have 2 or 3 days down time in some places. My co-captain would take his too and we would hunt. Found lots of good stuff. Especially liked beaches where there was lots of quarters. I found over $300 in quarters one summer.

As far as local places to hunt, be sure to hunt the school playgrounds of schools that have been there for a long time. Kids have been losing their lunch money at some of those schools for 50 years or more.

Funny you ask. I live in the old part of Clarksville and some metal detecting enthusiasts wanted to

comb my yard with their gear. I sent them on their way to pursue their hobby elsewhere since I didn't

want my dog barking so much. At one of my previous homes, I let a guy do it and he found some neat

Civil War stuff.

I was forced into metal detecting last summer. When my roof was replaced due to the storms, my contractor did a very poor job in containing the roofing nails. After buying a detector from hobby lobby using their 50% off coupon, me and the kids spent 3 days detecting. Found less than $1 in coins in the yard, but did find over 2 lbs of roofing nails. Kids really enjoyed the finding portion.

I never thought of school playgrounds. My mother is a teacher in Marshall county. The school has a huge playground. May comb it over one weekend.

One of my hobbies actually .But been slacking a lot. TVA flooded parts are a good place to go also.Old homesteads that are now exposed due to the water being really low.

I have a White`s and they are really nice and lightweight.

I inherited a Whites Spectrum and a Fisher from my grandfather. I take the kids out around the property but my ground is hard clay. Need a pick ax to dig it. So far we have found some pieces from old farm implements, few shotgun shells, barb wire and some nails. Kids really enjoy it.

When I was younger I would go with him to ball fields. Its amazing the amount of change we would find.

I only went out a few times this past winter. To late for the woods now. Have to hit some fields before the ground hardens.

Fisher!

Got an older brother who's been doing it for years - turned himself into a coin collector in the process - living in Kansas, he researches to find the old stage/wagon/freighter trails and has found some really amazing stuff. Don't know what the policies are, but I'd be willing to bet that there's a whole bunch of lost stuff just waiting to be found on the Natchez Trace.
