Taurus silver Ultra-Lite .38 turning black

Recommended Posts

I have a Taurus Ultra-Lite .38 that's originally silver in color. I bought it new about a year and a half ago. The side that lies against my body when I carry it is turning black from perspiration. I admit, I don't clean and oil it every time I carry it. It's purpose was to be a cheap, reliable carry gun that I wasn't worried about sweating on in the summer.

I was just wondering if any of you know about the material this gun is made of and if this blackening will corrode the gun and/or cause any problems with the gun functioning properly? Does Taurus have any type of warranty on the guns finish? I don't know much about this multialloy material other than it makes the gun much lighter.

No, it wont corrode the gun or make it any less reliable. It'll just add some character. You could just give Taurus a call and see what they have to say.

Over the years I have sent guns back to Taurus 3 times. One twice I shot the heck out of and one I got in trade. They fixed them both up for me. Refinished the PT92 I bought new after the repairs. I didn't have any problems with them but they were slow. About 2 months and its hard to get some one to tell you whats going on some times?

I sent them an email of web page I think, can't hurt to check.
