I know "Sons of Guns" is Dumb Entertainment...

...But I just started their New Orleans crowd control vehicle episode, and am seriously appalled. I ordered it up through Comcast's VOD for cheap entertainment, and they've gone too far, IMO. I get the need for tear gas, and even water cannons. What I cannot understand is how any police department should ever be equipped with, or even allowed to possess a real 1919 belt-fed machine gun. That's not about crowd control. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I find the whole idea repugnant. Our LEOs have a very difficult job, but that level of militarization is frightening to me.

Apologies if this is a repost, or of I'm just getting too excited about a stupid TV show.

Everything they make is concocted nonsense. Don't get too worked up about it, it's all for TV.

Don't forget they think it's really an achievement to just pack a ton of tannerite in something. It's entertainment that just comes up way short.

I thought the same thing when I ran across that. Too much!

If you have lived or worked around Orleans you would understand. The whole city is a wash IMHO. I have done alot of oil work there.

I used to watch it, knowing it was fake, but thought some of the weapons were interesting. I no longer watch it. My favorite was then the boss suddenly came up with the new and briliant idea to combine accuracy of an AR-15 with the reliability of an AK-47 by... wait for it... putting a piston drive on an AR-15. According to the show, no one has ever done this before, and the military was amazed by this novel idea. And then there was a weapons test and secret deal in the desert, complete with a "general" watching from a blacked-out SUV.

It's the same as "professional wrasslin' matches" in the 70's and 80's. Some people SWEAR they are real. I know many people who swear that shows like "Lizard Lick Towing" are real documentaries.

That's a real game changer.

that show is every bit as entertaining as Jersey Shore. And quite a bit better than a lot of what is out there.

Now you're treading on dangerous ground! All that other stuff may be fake but don't bring wrasslin down to that level. Heresy! :stare:

The best one yet is the outtakes episode that was on last week. No drama, just all they guys being themselves, talking about all the behind the scenes stuff. Will actually seems to be a pretty cool guy based on that.

Other than that, when they're on some mission to F*** up a perfectly good gun, you can have it.

I still watch everyweek but don't know why I guess to see how much worse Steph and Chris can get. maybe Vince will smack the s**t outta him and make it worth watching

I'm pretty sure Jerry Lawler did in fact put a hurt on and mess up Andy Kaufman.

I have said it before and will continue to say it. No matter how silly people think they are they are doing all of us gun owners a favor. They are on national television exposing people to guns. I think they are helping to desensitize people to guns and the thought of gun ownership, especially those "evil" assualt weapons. I bet the show is responsible for people who never thought about owning a gun actually going out and buying a gun.

To the average person their projects might be cool and entice them to buy a gun themselves. And anyone who buys a gun or entices people to buy a gun is a benefit to us all.

As far as LE owning belt fed MG's I don't think there is a need. Belt feds are not going to be precise enough to be useful for LE and actually open them up to litigation if they are ever used. The reason they think they need one is because of the change in their mindset. There was a shift a number of decades ago to hire military. And along with them came their military mindset. And in the military mindset there always is an enemy and a us vs. them mentality. So now it is LE vs. non LE and they feel they need the biggest baddest weapon to defeat their enemy, civillians. This is why LE have be procuring military vehicles because that is what they think they need. This includes tracked vehicles even though I can't imagine any benefit to a tracked vehicle over a wheeled vehicle in a urban enviroment. Tracks tear up the road surface and are hard to drive.

I mostly agree with you Dolomite but must wonder how many idjits out there are beginning to believe that shooting something will make it explode.

I will second DS comment. Anything that makes guns more mainstream is good for all of us. But I still want to know where I can buy a Red Jacket hat and t-shirt so I can be "The coolest guy at the range".

Kept waiting for the explosion. Guess we were doing something wrong.
