IF you did the transaction out of state, regardless of where you live then transport it back across state lines... felony. Going to Alabama - we are back to square one. You don't need a bill of sale for any transaction, but you do need a FFL background check if the handgun is crossing state lines.

The ad was craigslist memphis/sporting goods. Why not north MS? The gun sale was in MS with 2 Ms residents.

If I find a good deal out of state on a handgun. I give them my OCP, which will soon be a CCP and they will ship it to me. No paper work on my part, pay for it and out the door.

The Birmingham trip is for ammo. No guns. I believe I can go anywhere and buy ammo. I bought some 22 shorts in NC last year without an ID.

Years ago I bought a 38 spl in MS for my girlfriend to target shoot with. She lives in Nashville. I found a 22lr revolver in Nashville that I wanted. She bought it, but I paid for it. When we parted, I wanted the 38 back, she didn't want the 22. We both contacted dealers and were told the same thing. A bill of sales is all that is needed. She sent me a bos for the 22 to me. Then she went off the handle. "Don't ever call me again and limit your emails. If I'm in a site and you enter, leave when you see I'm there. If Your in a site and I enter, leave or I'll report you." Well I not out of here without my 38. I was going into sites and telling everyone how crazy she was. 6 months later, my sister is traveling through nashville, they met and I got the 38 back.

It's OK to get an out of state handgun, but it must pass through an FFL in the buyer's home state to be a legal transaction.

This is correct. Out of state ammo purchases are cool.
