Hello all, just returning from Living out of the country. East TN Resident returning home. Active Army, handgun enthusiast, and looking to find people to shoot with, at, whatever. Who knows where I can find a HCP class not on one of the two Saturdays I'm in town?

I do not know where you should go if you just WANT to take the class, but I can tell you this:

• Effective July 1, 2005, Tennessee handgun carry permit law will now allow certain applicants already exempt from complying with firing range provisions of the current statute to also be exempt from any classroom requirements. Those current exceptions are applicants who prove to the department that within five (5) years from the date of application for handgun permit, the applicant has:
  
  1. Been certified by the police officer's standards and training commission, or
     
  2. successfully completed training at the law enforcement training academy; or
     
  3. successfully completed the firearms training course required for armed security guards; or
     
  4. successfully completed all handgun training of not less than four (4) hours as required by any branch of the military.

You asked if there are any friendlies out here. YES. A lot of them. Also a few dirtbags, but not as many as overseas, thankfully.

Don't know if you're in the mindset for this, but you might want to get a "country brief" now that you're back, so you know "the level of the threat" which is CONSIDERABLY LESS.

I joined my town's Citizen's Police Academy, meets for 12 weeks for three hours on a Thursday night, so that I can see for myself who has the watch and what level of threat we face in our town. It's kind of like getting debriefed and briefed. I've met a few new friends there as well.

I don't know how vigilant you remain, but this for me was part of "coming home" and helped me relax considerably.

Sounds like a plan, QuietDan! Thanks for teh heads up. I plan on becomign a reserve officer for a local PD on weekends once my flight schedules get hashed out. This sounds like a good thing to look in to.

Thanks for the offer, but Mooresburg's a good trip, and I can just hit the back yard at the parents houses. I do plan on spending a couple hours at the Wally World to make some suspended Golf ball targets and maybe try and put some nails in the boards!!! Thanks Top Shot for the ideas
