Weird Computer Sound Problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

I know there are people on here that can help.

Everytime I try to play music on my computer it comes out sounding like Alvin and the Chipmunks (people over a certain age will know what I mean). Or putting it another way, it's like playing a 45 at 33 1/3 rpm.

Anything I can do for this?

Take the Alvin and the Chipmunks Xmas album out

I think I got one for Chanuka one year.

When was the last time you messed up and played your 33 1/3 at the .45 setting?

Do you even know what I'm talking about?

Check if Windows Media Player has the Playing Speed Setting to 1.0 (Normal)

In Media Player, click View >> Enhancements >> Playing Speed Settings.

I think you got that backwards, playing a 33 1/3rd RPM record at 45.

This is usually caused by the Sound Driver not being set up properly.

Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia.

Click on the Audio Tab.

Make sure that the Playback device is set to the proper audio drivers.

If it is, download the latest drivers from your manufacturer and install those.

Or you can just buy a Mac so you don't have these kinds of problems!:D:D

The obvious question is did it just start doing this, and if the answer is yes then the answer is did you try rebooting. I'm sure you did, but it never hurts to ask. Next is make sure all the connectors to the speakers are seated correctly/getting good connection. Also if using xp pro you could try using system restore and return to a point when they worked.

Lots of assumptions in here, but I'm having to guess on when this started and your os.

Rabbi, detail EXACTLY what is wrong, and what media player you are using. You could have the playback speed set too fast. It should be set at 1. If you'll tell me which Media Player it is, I can detail how to change it. You can also try using a different media player to test whether it's the player or the sound card.

goto your system properties menu, you can access that by pressing the windows key and the pause break key together. click the hardware tab. then click device manager. click the plus tab by the sound, video and game controllers. the sound card name is there. take that name, goto the website for the card and download the correct driver for your operating system.

uninstall the driver you have and reboot. when you reboot, the found new hardware wizrd will pop up. click cancel, then install the driver package you downloaded before you rebooted. after it is installed, you might have to restart again. that should take care of the problem provided the hardware has not died.

is the problem specific to media player only? try winamp or VLC media player. hope this helps.
