ignorance of the law excuses no one then why is the officer not required to know the law. 3 different officers since 97 have given me the riot act on how i carry. tenn. law states where i can carry only, not how. cocked and locked and or open carry is none of the officers business whether he likes it or not. now before some of u get your panties in a wad i dont carry open often and have several good friends that are officers. i am absolutely not a cop basher. just stating what has happened to me

^a officers ignorance of the law is how many of them get relieved or in civil trouble. I see it as a citizens right to notify or not of there HCP and legal carry of a firearm. I just find it as curtousy to notify me and I may in return find there infraction a random incident. I treat everyone as if they have a weapon on them so I m not really treating HCP holders any different.

I have only had one run in with a LEO since getting my permit, it was after getting rear ended and he came to do the Accident report, I notified him and he said " Thats fine" and that was it.

I will always notify as a courtesy. I have always been as nice as possible when pulled over, when I was younger I was passed by an officer going the opposite direction, but I was going 95MPH he turned on his lights and after that he was out of sight, I decided to pull over and wait on him. It took him a little bit to get to me but he was nice about it and asked if I had a reason for driving that fast I just said nope he wrote me a ticket for 60MPH in a 50MPH Zone. I was raised if your guilty your guilty.

I have never gotten a ticket while carrying. I hand my HCP even if not carrying just so they don't wonder why I didn't when the DL info comes up. The only time I didn't notify was an accident where a lady in a minivan smacked my mirror and she pulled over in a Publix parking lot scared she since she was alone. We exchanged info and the cop let me go and gave her a ticket. I didnt want to scare the other driver any more than she already was.

I've had two accidents in M'Boro lately, first was rear ended while at a light. Two Motorcycle officers responded and when I showed one my licenses DL and HCP he handed HCP back and said he didn't need it, no comment whether I was carrying or not.

Second accident in Kroger lot when two of us backed into each other. Handed officer both licenses, and he did ask if I was carrying and I said yes, no problem no questions. Every thing handled good in both cases.
