I'm taking a normal, run of the mill folding stock chinese sks that had a broken stock and am building walnut furniture and converting it to run on ak magazines.

I can't figure out how to embed a flickr video, but if you go here:

Sks converted to AK47 magazines cycling rounds.

I cycled a few rounds through it with the firing pin removed, just to show you guys that it works.

Hope you like it.

Haven't built the foregrip, yet. Lol.

All the wood is still rough and has yet to be detail sanded and fit together. I wanted to get the ak conversion up and running to see what room I had to work with before I built the front handguard.

there will be a front handguard/foregrip/whatever you want to call it, though. Probably with a small weaver mount to mount a weapon light.

Keep in mind that when you modify it from the original configuration, an SKS requires 8 US made components for 922® compliance. That said, looks pretty cool.

This one was a non-c&r gun to begin with, and all the parts were made by myself (in the us), and the magazines are us-made, so I didn't add any import parts. I should be good.

Built a front handguard today and cleaned up some of the welds. It's getting closer.

I definitely will. I need to bed the action in the various stock pieces, reblue the receiver and all that, and finish all the furniture, then i'll put together a video of it firing for you guys.

Very impressive! I wouldn't be worrying with that 922 crap. "Your" American made stuff

should count just fine if anything has to count, any way.

Yeah, if my stuff doesn't count as american made, I don't want to live in this country anymore. Lol

Haha, and you're not the first person who's asked me that. I just get nervous when working on other people's guns, if ya know what I mean. Too much liability there.

I can if ya need it. I'll tell you right now that you need to mill out the magwell, build latches, and modify the bolt to get the ak magazines to work, though.

If the gun was imported, it will need to be 922r compliant. Considering the stock set and mag is US made, that's 5 parts towards your count. Drop in a Tapco piston and op-rod and you'll be ahead of the count

What do you do pot make it work with ak mag? That is something I have alwase wanted to do to my sks

You have to modify the magwell, the bottom of the bolt, and make front and rear mag catches. Honestly, It's a pain in the @$$, if you catch my drift.
