My license will be up in January 2013. How do I renew and when should I, to be sure to get my new one before this one has expired?

Thanks

They send a notice around the 6 month mark I believe. It will include a renewal form.

I let mine lapse.

Ditto. Unlike a 'real' FFL, a C&R licensee doesn't have to either keep or send in his records after the license lapses. So, I let it lapse, then reapply every three years. That way I don't have to worry about anybody bothering me about some transaction from 15-20 years ago. It's also a lot easier to keep your records straight if you don't have all of those old receipts and copies of FFLs and C&Rs from those you've done business with in years past. Just toss it all out and start over.

Mine's up in June. Received my renewal form first week in March. Filled it out, same basic info as a 4473; wrote 'em a $30 check, and cc'd the local sheriff. I'm a little leery of the lapse and renew strategy; especially if it cause me to miss a sale!
