I wound up with a large amount of ammo in 5.45 x 39. My Tantal eats it up no problem, I'm just wondering if anyone out there has an AR in the same caliber and how it performs. I also have a new slide fire stock and thought this might be a good way to enjoy it. Any input would be appreciated...........

I ahve had a S&W in this caliber since they came out. I like mine alot. No issues. It is alot more accurate than my AK in the same round. My AR shoots well with surplus ammo. As well as my other AR shooting cheap commerical/surplusl 5.56.

Thanks for all of the help. I'm going to continue the research but I think I'm on the way to another upper. I love to burn through ammo and that surplus stuff is pretty cheap.

Thanks to Karnage for the link to the other post's. Also since you are from the tri-cities area, do you know any good outdoor ranges there. My son is a freshman at ETSU and works as well. I thought I might bring up some toys and give them a whirl.

The only public ranges in the area that I know of are:

  • Jacobs Creek - Denton Valley Road, Sullivan Co.
  • Pond Mountain - Hwy. 321, Carter Co.
  • Scioto - Scioto Road, Unicoi Co.

There is a nice indoor range just outside of Johnson City http://www.myshootersedge.com/
