Wz78 vs savage mk ii vs ruger 10/22

I have been looking for a starter. 22to get my wife into rifle shooting (and some plinking of course)

I can pick up any of these for about the same, but having a hard time deciding. The wz78 appears unfired but has a small broken piece on the stock about the size of a nickel. The piece is intact and could easily be glued on and repaired. Some people swear by these.

The 10/22 would be fun but I wont really be able to upgrade it.

The savage has the accutrigger which is a plus but the stock leaves little for desire.

What do the rifle pros think?

I've shot both and the Savage was the better gun out of the box.

The trigger was MUCH better on the savage. Where as the 10/22 is known for its horrid trigger.

Even the newer 10/22's are still awful compared to the Accutrigger.

With a little work the Ruger can be made to shoot every bit as good or better than the savage.

It's all in the money you are willing to spend. At the very least it needs some trigger work. Then move on to a barrel.

The Savage is a Bolt Action and it may become boring to some (women)

Where all you do on the Ruger is keep pulling the trigger.

As for the wz78, I've never even heard of it. So I can not help there.

IMHO, the Savage is the best out of the box for accuracy and trigger. It would be the best choice for serious target shooting.

The 10/22 is probably more fun for general plinking due to the semi-autoness of it. It is also very light and handy. It also has the largest after-market if you want to make some modifications in the future.

The wz78, a Polish training rifle with AK style sights, is a neat rifle and fairly accurate from what I understand but those sights might not be the best for a .22. I would also be concernced about magazine availability for them.

If I were to go with the polish trainer I would scope it. I still have access to mags at work but of course when they're gone they're gone. I went to look at the savage again last night and the price for the accutrigger version went up and the ruger went up too. They're both in the 240 range now. The wz78 I think I can get around 175.

Someone at work suggested a mossy plinkster but I'd rather stay bolt or if I did go semi I'd go ruger.

Just an fyi too Walmart is selling the non accutrigger savage for 147 (up from 115 two months ago...)which could factor in too (but rather have the accutrigger and not keen on Walmart rifle purchases)
