I have to compliment Dickson Electric for getting our power back on yesterday, they had alot of work around the area and they spent several hours just pulling new lines to my house. I didn't have any house damage, mainly because i'm protected by a hill behind my house but I had alot of yard and tree damage. Here's a few pics. The destroyed barn in the last pic is one of my neighbors.

(Supposely), my neices friend who lives near McCory Ln took this looking towards Kingston Springs and I-40. I never saw a funnel because it was rain and hail wrapped. It was an F1 according to the news, this could be it but you know how fakes can appear on the internet.

So I also had a fairly big apple tree blow down in my back yard and now I have several paeople want some wood from it. I never used it to BBQ but i'm going to saw up a bunch in small blocks and keep it for smoking. Anyone know how long I should let it cure before I burn it or will it be okay to burn green? Also what is the best meat to smoke with it? I need to go down to my swamp/woods to see if there's any hickory down, there's several big oaks.

As a firefighter one would think he would be smarter than to stand there and film instead of having everyone taking cover. Standing there and laughing about it doesn't seem very smart IMO.

Since you don't know the building they were in you can only make assumptions.

Depends on what kind of smoker you have.... charcoal, wood, gas, or electric?

If it's charcoal or gas, it's ok to burn it green... it makes more smoke that way. If wood, I'd mix a couple green in with the dry. If electric... I've no idea. If you want to burn it in a wood stove (like for home heat), let it dry for at least 6 months.

As for the best meat... anything... pork, beef, venison, chicken, turkey... whatever. The type of wood is a small factor, IMO.

I have a charcoal smoker. The only wood I have used is oak and hickory but I heard apple was a different flavor. I might experiment with a chicken first, I would hate to ruin a rack of ribs or a big shoulder if I didn't like the apple. If I do like the apple I have a lifetime supply of it.

The wood won't ruin the meat unless it's got fungus or mold in it. Some folks claim to tell a difference based on the type of wood, I really can't. Maybe if it's a wood fired smoker, but when just using it to smoke over charcoal... nah.

I also have a charcoal smoker and have used hickory, oak, cherry, pecan, mesquite, apple, maple, and probably a few others. The biggest difference to me is how fast the wood burns up and hence how frequently I have to tend to it. So far, pecan is my favorite... smokes for hours.

This is making me hungry. I've got a pork loin in the freezer and the weather is supposed to be decent this weekend. hmmmm....

I guess I would be stupid, cause I would have been watching too! I love storms.

You can see the building he is in. One with nice big bay doors that are open.

It's a well constructed fire hall between 2-20ton tankers that aren't going anywhere. It was only an F1, it came right beside my house and I wasn't worried that the house would collapse, winds didn't top over 100mph, the hail did most of the damage to buildings. The damage sucks but the experience was actually fun, I haven't had an adrenilin rush like that since I used to skydive. When I leave this planet some day I want my last words to be YEE HAW, not WAAAAA.
