I have one of the Deerfields. Not one of the original style. Mine is the one they came out with a few years ago. Light, accurate and handy. But they serve a limited purpose. Low capacity and pretty much limited to deer sized game and smaller.

They are well made, however.

I'm sort of a Rugerite, but I don't get it. Would rather have a Marlin lever gun in .44.

Or in .357. Which I do, actually.

I have one and honestly it's a great handling, light reliable gun. It was my Grandfathers(he's still alive) but I would not pay the $600 they bring to replace it. It recoils hard enough you would think it's 30-06 level of power but I'll tell you it's not. It's fine for killing deer under 200yrds. The advantage I see is that 44mag is a great reloaders round. I would rather have a Mini-30 as I feel it is a truly universal rifle thats somewhat similar.

I have one of the old 44mag carbines. I love that rifle. Have had it since '82 or so. Bought a Marlin 1894S lever gun to go with it some years ago.

Well made traded for one today, he is refinishing the stock, had a nice balck walnut on it I believe. He wants to mount a red dot on it

Great carbine. Dad used one for boar hunting. Sold it a couple of months ago. Getting rid of his collection. Problem with the originals is parts for the feed mechanism. They don't exist anymore. I've replaced it with a Marlin levergun. BTW the recoil is closer to lowbrass 20GA. from an 1100.

The reissue and upated Ruger .44s with the detachable magazines are also good carbines.

Cheers,
