Finally decided to pay the state their pound

Well, I have long held that the ability for one to keep (own) and bear (carry) a weapon is a right guaranteed us by the constitution of the United States. A right that I, and many others have fought for. Tennessee seems to think that I should pay them money for that right... I have objected for a long time, but finally I gave in. I figure it is better to pay what I should not have to pay than to wish I had later.

I took the HCP class yesterday, and actually learned a bit about point shooting they did not teach in the Army. Aside form that my 12 year old would have passed. Today was DMV and prints. So yeah, I am looking forward to getting my permit in the mail.

I also ordered a new EDC, as my full size Beretta 92 is a bit of a hoss for carry. I ordered the PX4 Storm Subcompact. I love that it has the same decocker and rotating firing pin that mine does. Afterall, getting shot in a gunfight is one thing, but shooting yourself is really bad.

welcome--however...i agree. We all have the right, sadly, some of us pay for that right so we dont end up in the slammer. Although constitunially wrong, its better than a good a$$ kicking

Yeah, it's only been 7 days... But waiting for the permit to come in sucks.

Yeah, if you get caught I would like to see you argue that case with a cop, and then you go to jail for UCDW and then your gun gets confiscated and placed in the court system limbo where you could get it back in 2 years if at all. $120 and a months wait seems cheap if you think about it.

I looked at the "class" as a good first step toward what I hope will be a long educational journey with firearms... Most of the teachers out there have some good stories to tell.

A receipt from DMV and a pistol will get you a free meal in jail. Untill the permit is in your hand, it is illegal to carry in TN.

Will, we all agree we shouldn't have to pay to exercise a Constitutional right. But until they pass Constitutional carry nationwide we are unfortunately left with little choice if we want to stay out of the pokey.

I have no problem answering this... No, I have never carried without a permit. I believe in working to change unconstitutional laws, but I am not going to blatently break those laws as a means of protesting them. I have to make a living to support my family, and it's hard to do that in the Gray Bar Hotel.

I have written a letter, and two members have a copy of it in case I die in an act of violence without having a permit to carry. It states that I am a veteran of the US Army, and have been trained in the use of weapons, and that a large portion of the blame for my death is the responsibility of the state of Tennessee for infringing on my constitutional 2A right to bear arms. Most likely this would do no good, but you can never tell what John Q Public is going to latch onto.

Being that I am usually a quick in, quick out kind of person I took my wife along with her coupon book to Wally world. I was definitely in there more than an hour. LOL It was a little strange at first, but I got used to it rather quickly.

I just happened to be faced with a call of nature while there, so bad as it may sound I was curious what others do with their sidearm during, say, a #2? Sorry, I cannot think of a better way to ask....
